transfer case compatibility

i still have the clunk as described in the thread by that name and i won't go into that description but in attempt to make sure the t case is the problem, the dealer is planning on swaping a transfer case out of an 99 sport into my 97 xlt. He is waiting from parts to find out if the t case is compatible. The number on the tag on mine (the 97) is F77A GA and the one on the 99 sport is XL24 CA. Anyone know if these two are interchangable? You guys replyed to the clunk thread suggesting the problem was in the t case and now two months later the dealer thinks maybe so, even though the case has been out and inspected.

The transfer case out of a 99 sport will work in your 97 xlt, they both use the same transfer case.

Thanks Doug, (good name, same as my son) I figured i would get an answer on this great site quicker than from Ford parts at the dealer. I will tell the mechanic tomorrow to do the swap.
