Transfer case compatiblity for 1999 XLS - 4405-12

Will a 2002 Explorer transfer case fit on a 1999. I have the 1999. Found a used transfer case from a 2002. If it is confirmed it WON'T fit by this forum, I won't have to waste time going to look at it. Thanks
