We have a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT that we just bought. But, the transfer case is bad. We had it inspected and that was the conclusion of the inspection. The place that we bought it from (we have bought cars from the same guy for years, he's great) is going to fix it but is unsure about in what direction the transfer case is. He usually works on Honda's; he knows what he is doing for sure but is not particularly fond of starting to work on this part of the car without knowing the installation steps first. Thanks!!

It should go in one way. There should be one end that connects to the extension housing with a straight line out to the rear drive shaft and the other points forward to the front prop shaft.

Make sure you mark the alignment of the shafts to the TC with paint before disconnecting to maintain balance, use a new extension housing gasket, and drain/fill with new lubricant too.
