99 ranger XLT 4X4
hello all, I'm new on this forum and I have to say that I'm very impressed with all the good information here

I have a 99 ranger 4X4 A/T
I just had my transmission rebuild and the place that did the job told me that I have a bad radiator, so what they did is by pass it and just use the small oil cooler that my truck already have.
I was told that even if I replace the radiator not to run the transmision oil by it because in case that the radiator fail again it could ruin my transmission again

the question is, should I trust that opinion? there must be a good reason ford made my truck transmission oil cooling system to run by the radiator, no?

I'm very conserned about this because I'm running oversize tires 35x13.5x15 and I don't want to over heat the transmission and ruining it again

if anyone can help me it would be great
Thanks

welcome

I think you have a couple of options:

1. Get a replacement radiator and hook it up the way it was (stock).

2. Get the largest transmission cooler you can fit and run the ATF thru it.

3. Get the largest trans cooler you can fit and replace the radiator and run the ATF thru both.

The more cooling you can get the better.

The trans shop guy may be worried about debris from the original cooler getting into the transmission again. In one of the TSBs Ford says to replace the cooler if there is any chance that it is contaminated from the prior trans failure. They also recommend an external inline filter in that case.
