Transmission ID Help Requested

Hello All,

This is my first post so be gentle. I have a 99 Explorer Sport with a 4.0L OHV (X) engine, a 5 speed manual Transmission, and a BW 4405 Tcase. I'm trying to ID the transmission but I am getting conflicting information. The thread for trans codes on this sight says the the "M" trans from 1999 in a M5OD-R2. I called one ford dealer, he said Mazda 5 speed R2 he never asked me the engine. I called a second dealer and he asked me which engine I had and he told me I have the Mazda 5 speed R1. Is it a difference between the 4.0 SOHC and the 4.0 OHV that is causing the difference of opinion?

For 99, it should be an M5OD-R2. Engine choice won't matter... a manual trans was only available in the Explorers behind the 4.0 OHV engine for '99.

Is there a tag on the transmission? the only thing I can find is a sticker that says F87A.
