If it has no dipstick, and has a unitary case (bell housing is part of the transmission), then it's a 5R55W.

Just a heads up, I just had my middle band replaced. I have a 2002 explorer, and I have a 5R55S. My manufacture date is 01/02. So be careful before you assume you have a 5R55W.
