Transmission interchange between models?

I don't have time to search right now, but I wanted to ask a quick question. Would a 96 Aerostar tranny work in a 91 Explorer? I believe they are both A4LD. I have a chance to pick up the Aerostar tranny for dern near free.

By 96 the a4LD had turned into the 4R series, which were electronically controlled.WIll fit... but. NOW others mayknow more but I do not think they were still installing the standard A4LD by then, it was the A4LDE or 4R55... different controller.

i dont think so... the aerostars sometimes had differnt engines.....

also after 94, at least in the X, they based off the same design, but made it electronically controlled

all that said, if you can pick one up for near free, do it, you can parlay it into an A4LD in all liklihood.
