Transmission or TC??

I have a weird situation; I can start my 92 Explorer and move it in the driveway then all of the sudden, no trans engagement in any gear fwd or rev. Then wait a 10-15 seconds and the transmission will engage again but disengage under load. After a few minutes of warm up though everything seems to hold fine and it is driveable... Any ideas on where to start...? It is a stock A4LD.

Add half a quart of fluid.

when warm, it is exactly where it should be on the dip stick...

Still, add some. It's starving for fluid when cold. Mine did the same exact thing after dropping the pan. I just didn't add enough back in.
