Transmission Pan Nut

I was going to change the tranny fluid (5 Quarts) on my sons 2004 AWD Explorer and could not get the nut to come loose or even the star shaped fill plug to come loose (afraid of stripping the inside out). Anyone with tips on how to to handle this without dropping the pan?

Heat it up a little, and torque on it. If you break it, drop the pan and change the filter.

I would keep working on that inner plug, use heat and tap it when trying to remove. my large portion plug spins, I am going to drop pan this week and weld nut in it from inside.
