Dorman makes very nice powercoated transmission pans that are very inexpensive and have a drain plug. Reviews are very positive. You can't screw that up, right?

My pans looked very rusty and beat up and I ended up getting 3 for all my cars. The pans are much less than a gas fillup!

My ex may have been weeping a bit.

Also I can have peace of mind that I can very easily change a few quarts every other oil change. May save an expensive reman in the future. I bet if Ford put these on from the factory they would have had many more happy customers. The second pan is actually a copy of the Ford pan that goes on all 4r70Ws sold to U-Haul. U-Haul isn't stupid and they know that changing a few quarts of fluid may save them millions over a whole fleet. p/n: F8UZ-7A194-AA

Sounds like a winner, especially for those of us unfortunate to have the notoriously troublesome 5R55 transmission. My only concern is they
are the Dorman brand, which I've never had much luck with, especially fitment. Seems like a relatively new product, what few reviews there are seem positive. Excellent info, thanks for the heads up

Had no idea these were available. As long as the transmission pans were steel, I've simply added my own by silver soldering a 1/2" fine nut to the bottom of the pan after drilling a hole.

Fully agree with partial fluid changes -- the fluid is the lifes blood of a transmission. On those "sealed for life" transmissions, its the life of the fluid that matters. As soon as the fluid dies, so does the "hardware".

I put the Dorman pan on my SOHC a couple of years ago. Never had any problems with fitment or leaks. Before installation, I also put in a strong magnet to catch any metal shavings that might accumulate. IIRC (although I could be wrong on this) I think the bolt on the Dorman pan is magnetized. I used a Fumoto Qwik Valve which is why I installed the magnet.
