The tranny on my '03 Explorer XLS (with 110K miles) has been slipping for the past few months but only 1st thing in the morning. It slips, bucks and chugs until it warms up, then is good. The other day when I was pulling a utility trailer with a mower on it the tranny would not engage when going up a hill. It spewed fluid out the vent and smelled cooked. Had it towed to the dealer they added 2 quarts of fluid and checked for codes....no codes..no slipping during 10 mile road test???? We have been driving it ever since with no problems.....

Any ideas... solinoid or maybe the bands need adjustment? When a tranny fails dont they usually throw some alarm codes into the computer or OD ligh t comes on??

I dont want replace whole thing and am hoping that someone can repair at lower cost but dont know who to trust. Hoping to have some ideas from the experts on this forum.

Thanks!!!!
