I am hoping someone can help me! I own a 98 XLT with Automatic 4 wheel drive. I put the truck into reverse this morning and it just made a loud fast grinding noise, like it was trying to go into gear but wouldn't. I placed it into park and it continued to grind for a few seconds. Then it seemed to drive fine until I was driving down the highway and it just seemed to pop out of gear and started grinding loudly again. Now it is getting to be every time I stick it in reverse it does it. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum! It seems as if everybodys having tranny problems all of a sudden

Engage low range and see if the problem persists. Typically I would lean towards the t-case with these symptoms, because if it was a trans issue, I would *think* there would be other associated issues, and it would not start working again...
