Reminder: First Ocotillo Wells North Public
Workshop to be held Tonight!
California State Parks will conduct two public workshops focusing on the Ocotillo Wells North area as part of the comprehensive public involvement program for the Ocotillo Wells SVRA General Plan and EIR. The purpose of the workshops is to collect broad input on issues and ideas associated with long-range planning for this portion of the SVRA. The format of both workshops will be identical.
The first workshop will be held TONIGHT, Thursday, March 10, 2011 from
7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Carlsbad Senior Center (799 Pine Ave, Carlsbad, CA 92008). For directions visit Google Maps.
The second workshop is scheduled for Saturday, March 19, 2011 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Travertine Grill (1409 Van Buren Avenue, Salton City, CA 92275). For directions visit Google Maps.
If you plan on attending, an RSVP is appreciated but not required.
Would you help our planning efforts by completing a short online questionnaire by March 31?
Whether or not you attend a workshop, you can help us identify key planning issues for OW North by completing the online questionnaire. Your input will help guide early project research!
About Ocotillo Wells North
Ocotillo Wells North was added to Ocotillo Wells SVRA after the Freeman property (also known as Truckhaven/Desert Cahuilla) was acquired by California State Parks in 2006. Senator Denise Ducheny and Senator Dennis Hollingsworth recently convened a group of stakeholders to establish a plan for dividing the Freeman Property between Anza Borrego Desert State Park and Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA).
Following the stakeholder group meetings, the plan was finalized under Senate Bill 855. This legislation specifies that the northwestern portion of the property be annexed to Anza Borrego Desert State Park and the southeastern portion of the property be annexed to Ocotillo Wells SVRA. This map depicts the annexations.

I'd love to go, however it's to far for me to travel for a meeting. If I had the day off, I'd spend the night out there and go wheeling.

ditto:(

like they said^

it is a 3 hour drive in light traffic, afternoon traffic could and has added 2-3 hours to the ride.

There were about 50 people there. The general theme was to keep it is and don't turn it into the area south of S22. For registered street legal rigs it doesn't seem like much has changed. If you are green sticker you have lost riding areas.

Does that mean Green Stickers won't be able to run at T-haven?? That sure would be nice for us...

No. Green stickers will still be around. Areas far north and west have been closed to them.

Visitation to Ocotillo Wells SVRA is up over 80% from 2001 till today. The bikes are here to stay and might as well get used to them being there. If they goes that means we all go. The only hope to limit them seems to be to leave the property like it is. Do not add bathrooms, do not add shade structures, no not grade the roads. Based on what others there were saying is that once they added those amenities to the south the party animals started showing up, trash started getting left behind and theft went up.

On the bright side they did say that within the last week the telephone booth was located and mounted back in its original place.

There is a thread over on Pirate about it. I guess some one knocked it down the hill. So some guys saw it and winched it back up the hill.
