Truckhaven is a huge playground for off-road vehicles. There are trails for everyone from mild to wild. This is a great place to test your driving abilities as well as the capabilities of your Explorer. You can see the fun we had last year by checking out ourTrip Report :)

Last year the majority of the particapants camped at the Truckhaven base camp. There are NO facilities available. Camping is primiative with no water, toilets or showers available. Bring everything you will need. Everyone is also requested to bring firewood to add to our campfire. If you can't bring any don't worry about it, but the more we have the warmer we'll be!!

Saturday night we will be having a potluck dinner with a twist. Everyone should bring their own meat and beverages, but also bring a side dish or desert for all to share.

Bring your own cooing supplies if you can or you can probably share someone elses grill if you don't have one.

Weather conditions in January usually consist of warm days and cool nights, however rain can be present at this time of year and high winds and cold nights are always possible. Come prepared!

Hotel Accommodations For Truckhaven 2001
Here is a list of hotels in Indio, Salton Sea and Borrego Springs.
Sandy and I stayed at the Dead Link Removed before and thought is was adequate and the price was reasonable. :)
If you want Class and you have the cash, the La Casa Del Zorro is the place to go.
Here is a site for Borrego Springs where you can also check out the prices and what the other places look like.
One other thing I'd like to mention is October thru June is the peak season around there and alot of "Snow Birds" frequent this area, so don't wait too long if you are looking for a room.

Getting Close

Bump

We're up to 42 participants!!

Ray Hutchinson's Pinyon Mountain Run

Pinyon Mountain Trail Run.

The pinyon mountain trail is a moderate to difficult trail in the Anza
Borrego State Park. NOT for stock vehicles, the trail is rated as a
"Black Diamond" run primarily because of three major obstacles that
require a lift and some technical driving skills: The "Squeeze", Window
Basher, and Heart Attack Hill. With the help of spotters however,
everyone seems to make it through. The trail offers a variety of
driving conditions, including gravel trail, some rock crawling, hill
climbing, downhill, and sand wash running, The scenery is far different
and more interesting than the Truckhaven area, and wildlife can often be
seen.

The trail head is a 35-40 minute paved highway run from Truckhaven camp,
and takes 4 to 5 hours to complete. Plan on an all day fun adventure,
so pack a lunch and plenty of drinks. One caveat: as with all difficult
runs, vehicle damage is possible.

Gas, Food, and Supplies in Salton City

Two miles from camp is Salton City. We were there for New Years, and gas was $1.62 unleaded. The gas station also has beer, ice, water, and foodstuffs. There is also a Mexican resturant and a burger place.

Radio frequencies:
CB: channel 1
2M Ham: 146.520 Simplex

These will be our frequencies for Truckhaven.
If you can tolerate it, we suggest you do not squelch your CB in order to maximize reception.
We will have other channels for seperate groups that we will designate after everyone is assembled, but this will be the main channel to monitor for right now.

Yahooooo!!!

We'll be at Truckhaven tomorrow night!!!

See ya there!!!
