desertboy, I hope you make it, cuz we NEED more Rangers, on this run and on this board. Last year's run, I was the only Ranger.

o ya...this could be interesting. I'm the type of person who likes to have everything finished and wrapped up way before hand. When I plan everything I almost always have extra time built in....and so forth. Man I sound ****. :) Heck....all I've got to do now is buy my tent and sleeping bag...and maybe some MRE's. Not sure about those yet.

As for stockers....I'm in a more or less stock truck right now....just show up. There's always a trail for us to run and a way to screw up our truck somehow.....just show up. Even if your truck doesn't make the trails you'd be able to spend the weekend meeting with everybody on the site and enjoying the outdoors. Added to that theres always an open seat somewhere too.

must be the explorer run motto.. "Just Show Up!"

leebo: mre's? YUCK! (mre = meals rejected by everyone!)

desertboy: I'm from Oakland, and will be going down via I580/I-5/I-210/I-10/hwy86. We'll post again when it gets closer, because I know of several other explorers going from the area. currently, I'm planning on leaving here on the morning of the friday (jan12) and coming back on the monday (jan15).

They do suck.....but I've lived on them for about a week once. Then I ate the biggest pizza I could find.

Hello all,
Im finally back from Bosnia!!! I said before that I wasnt going on the Truckhaven due to the fact that Sonja (my wife) is pregnant. Well....I think I would go stir crazy knowing that all of you were just over the border having fun without us.
I could read thru all 13 pages of this post to answer a few questions....but Im lazy right now.
Are there still rooms available? How many are going up to this point?
Im still wishy washy about going or not....give me a few reasons to change my mind.

Because the possibility exists that I'll be there... and you can always choose to do the easy trails and not the bouncy bou ncy stuff. :). If you go, hook up with Leebo, hes coming from Vegas and keeps bugging me to meet him on the way but I'm not even sure I'll be there... depends on how much work I can do to the explorer between now and then.

Hey Bryan, Welcome home!

Most of us are camping this year. I have no idea about hotel availabilty, but I'm sure you can find something in Indio or Borrego Springs.

We already have 35 Explorers signed up this year will be even bigger than last! Our "big dinner" this year will be around the campfire with lots of good people sharing lots of excellant information. Those are all good reasons to join us!!

Hope to see you there!

Hey Rick

Any word back from those Sport Trac guys or Superlift about coming out to the run?

Not a word...

How many people are comeing from arizona? I would like to caravan since i also dont have a clue where Iam going

Where in AZ are you coming from? I'm leaving Phoenix on Thursday night. I'll give you good directions if you need them. It's an easy trip from Phoenix straight out I-10 most of the way.

Autograph session?

Rick, on what days/nights are you going to be signing autographs?

I want an autograph j/k

I live in mesa and it would be cool to have everyone in az that is coming drive together imagine a bunch of lifted exporers's rolling down the highway

Arizona ?

I have searched every map I can find, I can find Dana Point,Miramar,Oakland,Truckhaven,San Diego and Texas but I can't seem to find Arizona. Where in the heck is Arizona? Someone told me it's just outside of Seattle. That can't be right. Aren't they the guys without day-light savings? Maybe that's why it's not on the map.

What's a newbie to bring?

I talked it over with my wife, Kim, and we agreed that we get to come out and play with you folks in January.

I posted earlier about my new used '98 XLT, and the majority opinion was YOU HAVE TO COME. So, after a few endless recounts, we decided to go.

I've been over The List of Stuff To Bring, and I can pretty much accomodate most of it, I figure.

My two major challenges are getting a box to lash to the tiedowns in the back (so Stuff isn't flying akimbo about the truck) and the CB.

I had not intended on necessarily bolting new gear to the truck quite yet (I know most folks here use Truckhaven as an impetus bolt, weld, glue, tie and rivet Yet More Stuff to their trucks, I'm just not at that stage yet).

So, would a handheld CB fit the bill? Does anyone have any suggestions? And has anyone found a nice box that I should be able to strap down to the truck?

I guess I can get one of those Rubbermaid boxes, and some nylon straps, and just have the box sit on top of the tie down anchors in the back. Any box of practical value is probably too big for the anchors themselves.

I was thinking that I could cut holes in the bottom of the Rubbermaid box and fit it over the anchors, and then somehow anchor it from the inside.

Just brainstorming.

Anyway, if anyone has any thoughts, they'd be appreciated.

Thanx!

Welcome aboard....to both the run as well as to the site. You'll find just about anything and everything all right here.

As for the CB.....when the post that lead to the "required items" was up there was a ton of yelling about the CB....some said yes some said no....the yes won. I don't think we'd kill you if you dont' have one, or any of the items. I would though go ahead and get the handheld. I've used some that were better than a mounted one. I think I've seen some at Radio Shack and such for about $40. As for the box to hold your gear. Please don't yell at me for this one, but over the last year I've used a milk crate with some tie-downs to hold my stuff. I've been unable to find a ammo box to hold my stuff so for this run I think I'm going to use a good old fashion tool box. A rubbermaid should work fine. Here is one I found from galls that would work great. http://www.galls.com/shop/viewProductDetail.jsp?item=VE022 Just don't put it on the bottom....loop it around the top to hold the lid on. NO BUNGEE CORDS These things then to break way to easy. Get a set from Wal-mart and tie everything and anything down so that you don't need to worry about anything. I've had a floor jack tied down in the back of my truck since I got it. No matter how I get it hasn't moved once. I doubt I can say that for a bungee cord.

Most of all tough go and have a good time. Most of us that are going aren't as big 4x4ers as several people here are and will be more than willing to help anybody out. Besides...it's not only about going to 4x4, it's about seeing the Pumpkin.

I have Cobra's

I have a set of Cobra hand helds. The worked great on the pre-run. I still plan on upgrading to a hard mount. I carry an extra....if you can't make up your mind, you can borrow one from me on this run. Just let me know.
