Ok, so last year I bought my Explorer from my girlfriends mother. its a 96 it had 195,000 on it when I bought it, I flushed the trans which hadn't been done since 100,000 and I replaced the radiator. It runs good minus a slight misfire at idle occasionally. It now had 205,000 on it and I tow a small trailer occasionally that probably carries 3500lbs and under. Ever since I bought it the trans has a weird "slip" It doesn't do the normal rev up and doesn't accelerate at all kind of slip, say im riding down the road at 50 and want to accelerate I push the pedal further and it kicks down a gear and revs to 3000 it doesn't climb higher than 3k and the speed slowly increases, almost as if its slipping but it grabs enough to slowly accelerate. I dont have the infamous flair issue, which im happy about, but I want to know from those with more experience with these trucks than I, is there anything I can do to possibly save this trans? Adjust bands? rebuild VB? I already am going to put a aux trans cooler on it and temp guage because I plan on keeping this truck for a long time, My girlfriends aunt had one the same year and motor (4.0 OHV) that lasted to 335,000 so I plan to beat that.
