I have a 5.0 from a 1998 explorer in the buggy I am building. I had this motor in my other buggy and it worked well, however, with my new build I am cleaning things up a bit.

Previously I ran with two cats, egr, and stock exhaust manifolds. My new build has headers, no cats, and I would like to remover all the egr components, since my headers no longer have an egr tube connection (among other reasons). I am running a computer from a 1997 explorer to get away from the pats issues and I would like a tuner that is budget friendly (if such a thing exists). At a minimum I want to be able to remove the egr/dpfe without causing the motor to stumble. Ideally, I would like a tuner to add more power, and potentially delete all the unused sensors, and depending on budget adding power would just be a bonus. I don't have, nor care about a cel light, so if I can somehow get rid of the dpfe/egr without a tuner, that info would be appreciated. I have searched with little success at finding a way to delete the egr/dpfe, since it seems most people are concerned about the cel light being on.

I assume everything is wired in like stock? If so you can find an older sct SF3 tuner that will do it. They can be had used for around $200. You need to check serial number to make sure it can be updated (has to have XP in beginning of serial number I think)

It's what I run on my ranger that is v8 swapped with the 97 Explorer pcm. You can change shift points, air/fuel wot and egr option without a custom tune.

Tweecer.com Scroll down the page, you can get a basic tune on a chip all the way up too a DIY unit with chip writing capability.

I have a couple of the Tweecer RT's and have many tunes for blown applications in a Bronco, F150, and Ranger. Next I am doing my X.

you can simply remove the egr and block it off with no problems

if the engine is stock and your running 87 octane i wouldn't be too concerned with getting any more power out of it, best bet is to spend that money on modifying it to get more out of it then factor in tuning it

That's right, the only power adder I see is the headers. The stock computer can make-up for those and a mild cam. I think when you get past those, you start getting into more power adders, then you need to tune.
