U HAUL AGAINST EXPLORERS!!!!

good one yesterday.. stopped by the local U-Haul place about seeing if I could rent a trailer from them.. the salesjerk said that the "Explorer(I was driving mine) was a POS and wasn't safe to tow with" So I asked him who owned the Mountaineer parked off to the side, he said the owner of the place, I got a kick out of it, telling him that the Mountaineer and the Explorer are IDENTICAL badged engineered vehicles(had to explain that one to him)

And here U-Haul HQ says it's not a safety issue at all. Guess the local dude failed to read policy.

I am mis-quoted on this BB, I did not experience a problem getting service on tire rotation - I reposted another persons post about not getting help except for fooling an old guy at Costco to help him. My point is Uhaul, Costco and soon others will ban the Explorer for service, thus diminishing the Explorers usefullness and worthiness. Not being able to tow a trailer for ATV, motorcycle, or boat is not very impressive. Even Hertz rental ads mention the usefullness of renting an Explorer for recreational purposes, ad shows an Explorer with hitch, if it's only good for hauling your backpack or skiis then you don't need an Explorer a Mini will do.

Yes it is. Ford's recommended tire pressure was 26psi, which is not what Firestone recommended at all.

Youe anology is fine. I'm talking about all the posts about Firestones, rollovers, roof structure, safety and pretty much everyone that was claiming the Explorer a dangerous POS heap, like the Pinto. That's anohter thread, this one is aobut UHAUL and their "business reasons".

You should of then asked to speak to the owner and tell him his employee insulted you...no need to call anyones car/suv (whatever) a POS...not his place. What car did he drive? Working there probably not anything new that is for sure (unless owners son). Plus then I would of told the owner by implying my Explorer is a POS that he also insulted the owner because that is what he drives (just rebadged) and he is too stupid to even of realized that.

I think it is bad that U-haul is not putting the Aviator and Mountaineer in the same catogorey. What if I rent a U-haul trailer to pull behind a Mountaineer and I wreck and blame U-haul...all I would have to say is whay you banned Explorers but you still let me pull a U-haul when it is the same vehical. I can not see what defence U-haul could put up.

That's almost simple in a stupid UHaul state of mind. Of the 5 million Exploders on the road today, how many of those are Navajos, Mountineers, or Aviators? Just a fraction.

I was at a UHaul center today to buy some boxes. I talked to the guy there about this. He said most of the UHaul centers think it IS stupid.

I thought it was funny that in their big poster of typical setups which are behind the counter. The pics with an SUV IS an Explorer. At pre '95, boxy type like my first one('92). He said everyone asks why they still have them in those posters. Also, they will still put hitch assemblies on an Explorer, but then NOT rent you a trailer to pull. What a crock.

I told him I thought an Explorer's owners Class Action Suit was in order. He agreed.

So how do we go about doing it? I am game if we can muster enough support. I have the need from time to time to rent a trailer. I think UHaul is the ONLY place in our city that rents them. So what are we supposed to do?

He said it is so dumb in that he can puts them on ANY other SUV, even those little Hondas. Hell, look at the Land Rover. WHat do you think the CG is on that thing with that high body style?

He said he had a customer come in the other day and had and Exp. He could not rent. They were PO'd. They had to drive back 50mile to get an old beat up pickup truck. So 100mi round trip. Then get the trailer to take 600miles in that beat up old truck. He said they were furious, but had to do it.

And they will rent to Expeditions which is just an overgrown Explorer.

I am ready to take them to task!!

Let's organize...Anyone know a lawyer willing to take it on?

I agree, and I'm certainly no attorney, but wouldn't you have to show some tangible loss or damages incurred by them not renting you a trailer? I would think that would be tough! It's hard to put a price tag on inconvenience. I'm sure their attorney's have also looked at this angle. A nation wide boycott might be more appropriate. Either way, I'm in!

Curious, if Uhaul has been hit with lawsuits and they can no longer insure themselves for this type of vehicle - how come Explorer owners car insurance has not doubled or dropped altogether, is this next?

I wish such a lawsuit were possible. Correct me if I am wrong; but, you can’t make someone enter into a contract with you. Advertisements for a products or services are generally merely an invitation to enter into an agreement

Before buying my Explorer I saw the ads about how much it could tow etc etc. When I went to the dealer one of the things that the salesman stressed was the Explorers ability to tow. Here is a list of some of the people we need to contact and complain. http://www.blueovalnews.com/contacts/ford.htm

Regarding the insurance I think it is only a matter of time before we start to feel the backlash. Interestingly, Ford keeps harassing me to switch my auto insurance. I am sure that many of you received the same solicitation from Ford insurance services. They claim that they can save us 350 dollars per year. Yea right!! I am sure that the Ford Motor Company Insurance Services is going to fight real hard to get me what I am entitled to receive if I am involved in an accident as a result of a design defect.

I didnt buy a Mustang because of the high insurance payments. If my insurance of the explorer ever gets raised to sports car prices then i may have to sell her even though thats not something i want to do.
