U.S. Opens Probe Into Goodyear Light Truck Tires

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. highway safety regulators said on Tuesday they had opened a defect investigation into certain light-truck tires made by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. (GT.N) that have been linked to 15 deaths and 129 injuries.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said it had received 37 reports of tread separation involving load range "E" light-truck tires that Goodyear has been manufacturing for the past decade.
Approximately 21 million of the Goodyear tires have been manufactured, NHTSA said.
The investigation comes three months after the recall of 6.5 million Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. tires blamed for 119 deaths. Firestone is owned by Japan's Bridgestone Corp (5108.T).
