I've replaced the blend door... easy enough. Worked great -- for a while. Naturally, the actuator took a crap a month or 2 after.

I just installed a Dorman brand actuator P/N 604-201..... didn't work. Little motor won't spin. Put back old actuator... motor spins. So, I figured I'd take a look inside of them.... old actuator had a gear with 3 missing teeth. Bingo.

After some playing around and getting frustrated, I figured I'd try swapping the gears....... no dice.

SO..... where can I get a blend door actuator that will actually WORK? Got this one from O'Reilly Auto..... checked RockAuto.com, but all I see is the exact same part I have already tried.

Pretty urgent... thanks.. if I can buy one that works from someone on the boards, I'd much rather do that. Thanks!:salute:

EDIT: old actuator says:

paid $75 for new actuator at stealership...... didn't work. error code 24.

20% restocking fee, and is it considered an "electronic" part in which NO refunds are given?? i have a feeling tomorrow morning i'm going to be in a BAD mood.

I have fought with the same problem. I ended up using the original actuator, and getting a replacement tiny gear from a junkyard.

There are blend door actuators with circuitry in them (For the manual types) and without circuitry in them (for the automatic types). I discovered, however, that the gears are the same. So i went to the yard and bought several- remember there's one in the console, too. If you don't have the ability to get to a yard, let me know I'm sure I still have at least one spare tiny gear, I'd be happy to stick it in an envelope and mail it to you. Good idea to grab a couple out of the yard (My yard charged me $8) and keep the spares.

I did the Dorman part too, by the way, and it didn't work. Not even with resetting the code.

Just finished installing the new (CORRECT) part I got from Ford... motorcraft brand actuator. Worked like a charm. Thank God..... I was getting pretty fed up. Now have ice cold air, and burning hot heat again. Yay.

I appreciate the offer. I actually tore apart the one from O'Reilly Auto Parts to try to replace the specific gear that had stripped teeth... didn't work out. The correct (for automatic) actuator only cost $56.xx... so I got some money back from the stealership. I'm happy..... wife's happy. lol.

yeah, I discovered the O'Reilly one had four gears instead of three and they were smaller. Glad you got it working! Is that location a huge pain in the buttocks or what?

Not exactly my idea of a good time, but I just replaced the blend door myself a couple months ago, so it wasn't too bad in comparison lol.
