USB Ports not charging adequately

2011 Explorer Limited. If I am on my phone it will not charge, if the screen is off it will charge but very slow. I have tried multiple cables with the same result. Are newer USB ports that come in the newer models faster charging and are the interchangeable? Thanks in advance!

Use a high-output charger in one of the power points. That's the only way you're going to get enough juice via USB short of trading in for a 2016 or newer or performing major surgery to the wiring behind the dash.

OK thanks, I wasn't sure if the usb ports from the newer ones were plug and play...

You'd have to double-check the model year when the high-current USB ports became available. I'm going off a somewhat vague memory.

The term "plug and play" does not apply.
