Ok a little L.Skynard never hurt anybody. I got a funky, moldy smell that comes out of my 02 X when I turn on Out side air w/without AC. More noticable on hot days. I figure my AC Drain hose must be holding some water and molding. It does drain. Has anybody else had this minor problem and if so, what was your fix>

Thanks

I have this problem and every X owner I talk to does too. Just one of those things I guess. Since the smell blows through shortly I don't worry about it. I just keep the windoes down for a minute when I turn on the air.

I get a mildew smell when I first turn on the air also. Goes away like 2 seconds later.

same here.:(

If you selaect the outside air without a/c, you are just drawing stale air from the engie compartment or hood vent. The A/C always blows smelly for a few seconds before the refrigerant kicks in.....

Had the exact same moldy smell for about a year then it just went away and hasn't come back.

Can't you spray something with Lysol or something to kill the mildew making the smell? Where would you spray it though?

It's because I'm sure you all live in a humid climate. When the AC blows cold, the pipes get cold. This will cause condensation. After you turn off your X, the condensation sits there and doesn't evaporate quickly because of the humidity. I have never had a problem with it, but then we average 13% humidity year round. As for a fix, I guess you could squirt a bit of Lysol down your vents. Don't think it would hurt anything. Just let it sit for a while and don't run your truck. Needs time to kill the fungus.

Today. High temp of 106 degrees. Humidity 10%.

Hot and humid all the friggin' time here.

For me its not juss the vents that smell its the whole damn engine like if i were to speed or drive at like 85 on the freeway it stinks like rotten eggs or somethign sometimes and it does it less and less it was worse when i only had like 1k miles on it now i have almost 8k miles and it does it still but only on hot days.

I read some where that said if you use MAX (recirculate) alot, that mildew builds up because theres no fresh air drawn in to dry it out, thereby creating mildew. It said to run atleast on regular for few minuted before you trun it off, to dry iy out. I usally do this, yet I still get a hint of the smell when I first turn it on. It also said something about using the Lysol (I believe into the intake or something???) , then it said that I guess there's a product made just for doing that, but I can't remember what its called, and I've never seen it by me anywhere.

Thanks guys, the smell is just a little worst than the normal 5 seconds of old air. but I think i will try some spray into the blower. I don't know if it makes any difference, but my 02 has Dual Air.

I just heard it on Car Talk. Fridgie Fresh is the treatment. Or they say wou can use Lysol and you spray it in the hood cowl while runningn the fan.

I may try this as I too have that smell occasionally.
