ok. I am the proud owner of a 1996 Ford Explorer XLT V6. It's my first car and obviously I want to make it a beast. So I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it is possible to put a V8 engine in an originally V6 Explorer. And if so what do i need to do this?

engine and computer and motor mounts to start with. If you can find an explore that has a v8 use it as a donor vehicle

Dont do it! There's no way a V6 tranny (the 4R55E) can hold up behind a V8. Better to just buy one with a V8 in it IMO (because it has the 4R70W tranny and beefier drivetrain ). But it is possible if you have plenty of money to spend.

Use the search botton, there are some other posts that say how to do it.

BTW welcome to Explorer Forum!

Yeah don't do the swap. Either GET a V8 or just up the power on the V6. You would have to swap trannys, electrical wires, the computer, mounts and the list just goes on. To be honest I have a V6 and it surprisingly is faster than many of the V8 trucks.

What are some cheap mods performance wise for a 4.0 v6

Well right off the bat I'd say hit Autozone for a cheap-o K&N drop in filter. The CAI doesn't really give much more HP for the money spent and the drop-in gives a descent amount and a nice little sound =-D If you DON'T live in Cali I would say doing a full exhaust system. Get high flow cats and a free flow muffler. You can get good exhaust systems for anywhere from $200-$400. You can also tweak the computer to give some better response. Hope this helped!
