Hello

This is my first post to this forum.

I have been a ford fan for most of my life. I am also a 2.9 fan, having a Bronco II and an extra cab 4x4 Ranger both with a 2.9

I just recently purchased my first Explorer, a non-running ’92 XLT. This is my first contact with a 4.0L. I towed it home and did a compression test on it. The test showed the front two cylinders on each side had zero compression. Pulled the heads off to find them both cracked. That’s fine, kind of expected that. So get two new heads and put them on. No problems until I begin hooking up the vacuum lines.

I am looking at a small vacuum line that for the life of me I can’t figure out where it goes. Two very small vacuum lines inside a common corrugated sleeve run from the vacuum tap on the drivers side rear of the upper manifold assembly, around the back of the manifold to the passenger side between the manifold and the rocker cover and under the coil pack and then stop. One of them connects to another small vacuum line from the airbox lid. The other one I don’t have a clue.

Anybody know where it goes?

I am very close to having everything buttoned up and ready to start. I could plug the line to get it up and running but I’d rather not. That thing is really bugging me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Matthew

Edited to add that it's a 4x4 automatic with AC.

Sounds like that should be the vacuum line running to the fuel pressure regulator at the front end of the fuel rail. If you haven't accounted for that vacuum line, I'd bet that's it.

That was it!!

How could I have missed that one? The wires for the fuel injectors were laying over the stem on the regulator. Oh well hopefully that was the one stupid oversight for this project.
I'll have it running in short order now

Thanks!

Matthew
