I have a 2001 XLT with a V8 5.0L engine.

When I first startup the engine I get a valve tap all the time. After the engine has warmed up a little bit, the valve tap at Idle goes away but when I accelerate the engine above 1000 to 1500 RPM the valve tap comes back. I have driven it for over an hour and the valve tap does not go away.

I am look for some ideas of what to look for first.

Thanks for any help.

Are you positive it is not an exhaust leak?

You might try a seafoam treatment, this will not only do a smoke test for an exhaust manifold leak, but it just might free up a sticky valve.

Also, check the egr tube, and the DPFE hoses. You will have to pull the hoses to check them for splits, but man when they leak it sounds like the motor is done for.

Another thing to check is the spark plugs. You might have one blown out, or loose. It does happen.
