Hi everyone. tried looking for a parts list for this and got no where. couple months ago i went to the junkyard and found these Warn manual hubs on a explorer so I snagged them for I think than less than $20 bucks. However i got the parts mixed in with my Automatic locking hub stuff. Took some pics so i can figure out which is which and to see if somebody already took something off of them. here's what i got so far. thanks for any responses and help Jason

on the bottom right and left of the picture the parts look the same but the one on the bottom right has little metal nipple on them. the ones on the bottom left do not have them.

I see more than you need to get manual hubs..

I see the hubs, the locking nuts (2 per side) the washer with the teeth, the washer with holes and the c-clip thing..

The above is all you "need".

I also see a pair of spindles, what looks like some wheel bearing seals, some wheel bearings and the nuts to hold the spindles on and some other things I can't make out in the pic.. That stuff isn't needed to convert to manual hubs..

As for the nubed nuts.. The one with the nub goes on first.. and you get it to the 20" pounds or so (just past finger tight, but not much).. the washer with holes goes on next.. then you put the next nut on and crank it down..

The nub is there to "help" keep the inner nut from backing off.. I've broken the nubs off before AND I'v accidentally pushed them "into" the nut.. I used a drift and a hammer to knock the nub back out so it works again..

btw.. the pile at the bottom of the pic, 2nd from the right.. I can't tell what is is, but its not part of the manual hubs..

EDIT: when installing the inner nut.. you turn the rotor as you tighten it down to about 20 ft pounds or so.. then back if off and put it to 20 inch pounds or so...

well looking at the pic you have everything there and then some for doing the conversion. The only I see missing are a couple more bearings.

thanks, the pile on the lower right second from the right are plastic washers of some sort. i'm gonna hopefully put them on this weekend if the weather is nice. gotta buy the socket for it now so i can tighten it down. i only have the one that takes off the nut for the automatic hubs.

There are no plastic washers in a warn manual hub.. there are plastic washer/cam type things in the automatic hubs.. so that is problably where those came from.

As for the socket.. the one for the warn manual hub is really common.. most autoparts stores have them (take one of the new nuts with you) and even many 4x4 shops (cost more there though).

Once you've done it a few times you will be able to change the bearings in less time than it takes to jack up the truck and pull the tires..

Yea.. those are better.. BUT, make sure your socket fits all of your nuts..

The socket we got won't fit the inner nuts (the ones with the nubs).. I've been too lazy to modify the socket or nuts so it fits.. the tollerences (sp?) are just too close..

I can set the inner nut without using it, but its taken lots of practice.. I've gotten the "feel" for what works on our truck, which isn't the book method or torque values.

i remember being up on a hill in a junkyard one summer with my dad using a big hammer and big screwdriver to get the spindle nuts off an old bronco II.. man was that a chore.

thanks for the link. got my answers now. taken care of it as soon as this weekend.

There are no plastic washers in a warn manual hub.. there are plastic washer/cam type things in the automatic hubs.. so that is problably where those came from.

Those look like the gray plastic shims that go right around the base of the axle stub shaft.
A small black rubber V-groove seal (possibly the item just to the left of the shims) then goes over that (groove against the shim), followed by the large seal with the angled-lip (the two large rings below the spindles) which seals the stub axle to the back of the spindle.

here's a pic of the Explorer. the good side of it which is still pretty bad.

I have a 92 ford explorer and the front driver side hub has broken off. If i dont use 4wd could i just leave that off and continue to drive?
