We just got our Ex back (11th time in service for leaking roof). The service manager told me straight up, "I saw the leak when you brought it in, I noted it in the paperwork, but we weren't able to recreate so there was nothing we could do." Our truck sat at the dealership for 6 weeks while they did nothing! That totals about 4 months of non use by us. Thats 4 months of Sirius Radio we lost out on, as well as being forced to drive an ugly Lincoln MKT, a smaller Ford Edge which doesn't fit the wife and kids for their needs, and a lincoln MKS which was decent on gas but didnt fit our needs well.

we're waiting to hear from our attorney since our Ford dealer did nothing to help us or work with us or empathize with our situation. Sucks, because we purchased $80k worth of 2 new Ford vehicles when car sales were at an all time low because of the down economy. Our last 4 vehicles have all been Fords as well so obviously they never cared about our loyalty to them either.:(

No Peter the first time they only put calking near the rear rail mount. which would only be the rear quarter panel removed.

The second time they put calking (white) on the outside in the area between the rear gate rubber seal and the roof in the on the roof seam. I don't know why because that is outside and if it did leak water it would have to run up hill if the car is sitting level.

The leak was closer to middle rail mount the water ran down the right side to the back and down the seat belt is the way the my body shop told me. They asked if the car sits on any slope I told them that my driveway is on a slope he said that explains it. It was enough to make it run to the back.

Also my body guy put the sound pads on the inside of the front of the roof to stop the tin can sound also no charge. I told him how Ford would sprays foam in it. He told me he hopes he does not get any of those cars with hail damage that would be a mess.

Frank, have you mentioned this to your dealer's service manager or dealership manager? That would be the place to start. The dealerships are independently owned and are not employees of the Ford service reps on this forum. Since you are apparently speaking of a particular dealership, the most the reps could do, I guess, would be to pass your concern along to the Customer Service Manager for that area. To do that, they will need to know the dealership you are complaining about. But, as I initially stated, the first step in getting this looked after would be for the customer to approach the service or dealership manager to make them aware of the problem and see what they will do to correct it.
The reps on this forum have been extremely helpful in many instances but you have to realize that there is only so much they can do. Their jobs is to take our concerns and pass them along to the appropriate people. They do not deal directly with the dealerships. We are very fortunate to even have these reps here. I personally know of one forum, and am sure that there are many more, that do not have this valuable resource to lean on.

My dealer sent it out a 3 PARTY Body Shop and the 3rd party could not fix it the First time or the Second time. When the 3 PARTY said they did not want car back - then the Dealer said that they would try to fix it.

If the Dealer could have fixed it they would have done it the First time. I was not going to let them try again. They had no confidence that they could do it otherwise they would have fixed it the first time.

The other Ford dealership in the area uses the same 3 Party body shop.

Oh yea

The service manager was let go a month ago and they see no reason to hire another one as far as I know from the service guy I deal with.
I should have took pics of my truck on friday but was too disgusted .
He said that Monday it would be done yea right!
Going on 5 weeks the 5th time.
It's costing Ford a load to have this truck in there shop and me using a brand new explorer that doesn't leak
Can u believe it doesn't leak.
Maybe I should just keep it and they can keep mine
Thanks for your concern, FRANK

Hi Edgieguy.

I'd like to look into this for you. Could you PM me your name, phone number, VIN, mileage, and dealer info?

Hi again, Frank.

I can definitely log your dealer feedback into our system, so this gets reviewed by the appropriate parties. I would still need the info I previously requested to be able to enter it into the computer system. I'm not sure of the specifics of your dealership management, but getting this feedback entered would at least ensure that someone at the dealer level is aware of your concerns. The offer's always there if you'd like.

... But, as I initially stated, the first step in getting this looked after would be for the customer to approach the service or dealership manager to make them aware of the problem and see what they will do to correct it....

Thanks for helping, as always, Peter.

Hi Bob71.

Some dealers have an in-house body shop where they have the equipment and personnel to perform these types of repairs, but some do not. If you are ever in need of body work again, let me know and I can locate a dealer that has an in-house body shop.

I live in AZ so it doesn't rain too much here. However, it is monsoon season now and I have noticed a mildew smell. Were exactly should i be looking.

Hi there PauL757. Welcome aboard. :wavey:
Some of the previous posts in this thread have been about water running down the 3rd row seatbelts. Also, if you suspect a leak, it would be a good idea to check the spare tire wheel well for accumulated moisture.
I think that you should also update your profile since it shows '04 Explorer. I assume you have a 5th generation one now.
Good luck.

Peter

3rd Row Seatbelt water leak

We are experiencing a water leak coming from the seatbelts of our 3rd row. Our vehicle is at the dealership now but they are not having any luck in replicating the leak. Any suggestions I can give them that will help pin point the issue so I don't get it back unfixed?

Need help! When it leaked, my daughter and niece's shirts were extremely wet, but we had, had several days of constant rain.

Make sure they take the headliner off. The most common area was where the roof rails are fixed to the body. Another had a leak along the trailing edge of the moonroof.
Check out some of the previous post in this thread.

Leaking again. No6 and counting

I was told that if they don't have a tbs they will not take the headliner down talked to a ford rep at one of the largest car shows last weekend and he said to get in touch with the reginal engineer
They are aware of this problem on the explorer .
Will see how long it takes for him to get back to me with a service appointment.
I told a friend of mine not to buy a 2012 and what does he do buys one and guess what it's a leaker!!!
The price of your truck drops in price when there's a problem like this cant even trade it in
No one can help you get this straightened out keep complaining and keep us informed!!!!
Good luck
Frank

I'm very curious as to how exactly they can tell where the water penetration is if the headliner is not removed? Doesn't sound like they really know what they are doing. It's not rocket science. To fix a leak you have to find it first.

Peter

Exactly

Peter u are right
The problem is if they don't recall it for the water leak the dealer doesn't want to get stuck with the bill. ,!!!
I did get a call that the regional engineer is supposed to take a look at my truck,
Well see what happens ans I will keep everyone informed what the result is...

This thread was me thinking twice about buying a 2014 Xsport.

My wife and I are selling our fifth wheel and will be trading our 2006 F350 diesel dually for a 2014 Xsport.
After reading about all the problems with water leaks, gas leaks, hood problems. I'm not sure we want to buy now.
Now that's hard for me to say because I'm retired ford (1964 to 1975). Growing up my father was so loyal to ford that he traded in his 1957 ford for a 1958 Edsel. My first was a 53 ford,55 ford,65 ford 69 ford. I think you get the picture.

When I worked for ford I worked in the passenger paint department on the sealer line. (our plant made F series trucks too) My job was to seal the roof drip rail. That's where most of these leak's seem to be coming from. There were no drip rail leak's on my watch.

My daughter and son in law always buy ford's with a Z plan number that I give them. They just leased a 2013 Explorer and so far only had the fuel leak repaired. They never smelled any gas. Their dealer called and told them to bring the car in for the repair. There best friend is a tech at that dealer. I will ask them to check for water leaks in those area's .

To buy or not to buy, that is the question.;)

Another leak

Save your money
Today my wife took the truck to work and the water was dripping on her foot.
My appointment is aug.12 water specialist is going to look at it
Funny that's all they have been doing for the last 6 months
If you want to know when your ex will be delivered you can ask one of the customer service people on here there good with that following up on problems not too good
No I'm not sending the vin tire size and year of birth
Forget it!
