So, in the past couple of weeks my Explorer has started doing something strange. If I have to come to a sudden stop, the transmission seems to slip out of gear. When you step on the gas to go again, it acts like it is in neutral and it won't go anywhere. After a few seconds it will slam into gear and lurch forward and then perform normally. Most of the time it will kill the engine but if you are moving along at 5MPH-10MPH it will not die.

I'm not getting any codes when this happens and it ONLY happens after a sudden stop. I've had a bit of a bump on the downshift coming to a stop for probably the last 50-60K.

Anyone point me in the right direction on this one? I've done a few thread searches but I must not be using the right words to find results that match this problem.

I would check the fluid level first.

Thanks. Turned out that I checked the fluid over the weekend and put another 1.5 quarts in it. Issue resolved itself. Not sure how I didn't refill it correctly since I thought I followed the procedure to the letter.

Regardless, it is good now so thanks again!
