Backyard Vehicle Restoration Jobs Again Under Siege in West Virginia

For the fourth time, a bill has been introduced in the West Virginia State Legislature that would further restrict the ability of West Virginia vehicle hobbyists from maintaining inoperable vehicles on private property.
The bill would redefine “abandoned motor vehicles” to include vehicles or vehicle parts, which are either unlicensed or inoperable, or both, are not in an enclosed building and have remained on private property for more than 30 days.

Under current law, the abandoned vehicle law applies primarily to vehicles on public property. The bill would make violation a misdemeanor offense punishable by substantial fines, community service and jail. SEMA has defeated previous versions of this measure.

Thanks to GIS photos the government can peer into anyone's yard to see how many vehicles are left outside. It's easy enough to figure out how many vehicles are registered for any given address. So much for privacy and private property rights:rolleyes:

:wtf:

....look out four-o-sport ...their coming after ya (lol) .

I think we have something like that here in MD:

My Explorer used to sit on the driveway after it was unregistered - it had tags but one was a Maryland "SAMPLE" tag (from e-bay) and the other was a 1964 Philippines tag. But anyways, I got a notification and had to keep it in the garage after.

Many cities in MI, Greenville included, have laws about unplated veh.s sitting in the yard. You either have to have them plated or in a garage.

That is such bs. If it's you're property you can keep whatever you want there. I think our government needs to start making changes before people start getting really pissed off.

Iz, fix this.

i live down here in south carolina and if they made that a law here i think a lot of people would probably be out of a home cause of payin so many bills on vehicles not in use in there yard that they use for parts vehicles

Wow, this is a tough one... On one hand it's a good, sneaky way to generate tax revenue, on the other hand it's an invasion of property. If the vehicle is out of sight, I wouldn't mind... but for people who keep dusty, dirty vehicles (or up on bricks) in the front yard, it generates complaints to the [city, state, county], which costs the [city, state, county] money to respond (which they cannot recoup). Also, if the vehicles are in front yards (side of the house too) this can negatively affect property values, which, again, is less tax revenue generated for the [city, state, county] This is a toughy...

Either way, complete invasion of privacy.

I have a parts Jeep I had been pulling parts from. Last week I cut it in half and HOPE to have everything off the front part this weekend. It will be going to the scrapper next week, no matter what.

Where I used t live in Ca, we were allowed whatever we wanted in our yards, as long as there was a fence to "hide" them from the street. My current town here in Utah is similar, but they keep talking about a 2 vehicle rule, even behind fencing. I really need to put up a fence around the side RV pad where I do a lot of my work.
