what are some common problems w/ 91-91 explorers? gonna buy one soon..

My 94 Ex has 190k on it, most notable problem is tranny at 100k, had it rebuilt and supposedly beefed up, has leaked ever since, noone can stop it, also doesn't like to go into reverse in the morning until it wakes up, then it works great......go figure. Radius arm bushings seem to be the weakest link in the suspension, mine are so bad it isn't even funny, have daystars on order also axle pivots. No other problems beyond normal wear and tear. still diggin it!

Well, by 94 at least, they added special relays on all X's for non-optioned factory trailer wiring, and holes in the rear bumper for chains.......

Yep, didn't have the holes for chains in my bumper. Mine's a little different anyway since it's a Navajo and it did come with the towing package.

ya i can see the difference in trailor harness wiring, mine didnt have any. Ihad the "holes" for the chains but no chain i had would even go through them, so I bought clevises to help out the situation. my buddies 2000 had the same problem with his chain holes too.

i dont remember readin this, its no biggie tho, but Ive also had"

a freeze plug go, the one with the block heater could have been dangerous leaked preston all down my street.
valve cover gaskets tend to go on my ohv

hope this helps

btw, maybe nobody buys as many chevy or GMC parts cause nobody wants chevys or GMCs

A4ld delayed reverse

Ive read about many an A4LD having the delayed reverse problem, mine is no exception.Ive recently rebuilt mine from a standard issue trany kit and found it had a tech update to fix this issue. It requires removing the programing plate between the valvebody and trans. All thats required is drilling out a 16th in. hole to a 1/8th in.There was also a newer style seal designed to wipe the bore clean on the reverse servo piston. but i believe the enlargement of the hole in the programing plate was the actual cure.Stands to reason that the cold fluid(thicker) passes a lower volume through this orfice thereby causing delayed reaction when cold. You can do this without removing trans so next filter change(good oportunity to install shift kit wich also remedies the problem) you might consider it.

Thanks for the tip, already had a shift kit put in at rebuild but will talk to the tranny guy about this at next fluid change, wouldn't that be cool if this simple fix made it go away.....thanks!
