ok fellas, i have a problem/blessing. this kid in my neighborhood who's always been in trouble(in fact i think he's on probation right now) has this little speaker operation going that he SAYS that the stuff's not stolen..yeah right...he says he can get a brand new mtx thunderform and 4 of the new pioneer 6x8's (the spiral kind) from his cousin and he'll sell them to me for $155. i know it's wrong, i know i shouldn't do it, but god, that's a damn good deal! plus, i dont know if the stuff's working right and all that. he says he has em in the box, but i'm still skeptical. he works at some car audio place, so he has some connection to car audio. i dont know what i should do...

Sounds like your conscience is your problem. Don't rely on us to do some thing that may be illegal. Write to dear Abby, call your lawyer, or do your home work, and find out if this kid is legit. Talk to his "car audio" connection and find out what you have to. But you have to make up your own mind. Good luck,

he cant be legit...someone has to be losing money here to be able to sell all that for 155....i guess i wont do it...

Yeah, they COULD be hot, but then, if they were hot, do you think he would arrive at a weird price of $155? I don't know the markup for car audio components, but really, the MTX form is a plastic box and a sub with some $15 gold terminals. It could possibly be that it only runs a little, but people charge a lot for them. I mean, if you look in Circuit City ads, they're always selling subs for really, really cheap once the year's out, so I wouldn't doubt if the stuff was really that inexpensive. I don't know, it's like if those 6x8s ran at the average Pioneer price of 80-90 dollars, the markup has to be at least enough to make a profit. So what do you think the shop gets 'em for? I've been to an Infiniti/JBL outlet, and they sold my bro some Infiniti separates for $50, that were usually $200, so anything's possible, and I assume they were still making a profit...

If they're new, you're just looking at the mounting holes anyway to see if they've been installed. Good luck!

personally, i would be very intrigued by this offer....
but i really dont think this is a good deal to get yourself into. this kids on probation... he is not selling you these things because he is really good friends with you... that 155 is probably 155 straight in his pocket cuz he didn't have to pay anyting for the items.
i myself have considered buying stuff from one of the shady kids in school, but have decided against it, cuz i never know if its gonna work. I like to buy things from legit companies even if it is more money, because i have the assurance that i am not participating in crime. buying stolen items is just another invitation for that person to steal more.
i just like buying good products from good companies. to me, its worth the extra hours of work.

just my 2 cents.

If you do buy them, tell him you want to make sure that they work before you give him the money. Get the serial numbers and see if the police department can check to see if they have been reported stolen. Of course not all stolen items are reported, but if it is clear it might give you some peace of mind, and if the numbers have been reported stolen, then you can get the items returned to the owner and another thief will pay for his crime. Be careful.
I know some people who sell people car stereo equipment, then turn around and steal it from them and sell it to another person.
good luck
