I have a 96 XL with auto 4WD, 133000KMs.

When I put it in low range, the transmission is very noisy, expecially when turning. I tried this on solid dry ground - not pavement.

I seem to recall that Ford had a service bulletin about this but cannot find it.

Can anyone help on the cause of this? Do I need to be concerned?

Thanks, Denis

Yes, you need to be concerned about driving on dry solid ground in 4WD low. This will cause your drivetrain to bind up in sharp turns and make noise because the tires can't move at the relative rates they want to.

Only use 4low on when your tires are free to slip. Mud,snow, ice sand. No hard dry ground.

its normal... its ujoints and cvs binding......
