i have the haynes manual but i never see any images of my kind of explorer sport

hears what i find on my truck

4.0 EFI, control track 4wd XL

i donw know if its a sohc or nothing like that. hear i picture of the engine..

i just want to know so that when i buy parts i can find the right without guessing

its a 4.0 OHV, its not the sohc.

and what is control trac 4WD? but it says its a XL

Yah definatly OHV (and yup, over head valves, SOHC is the other 4.0L which is Single Over Head Cam), it looks exactly like mine except your have a conical type air filter. The pics in the Haynes manual didn't help me ID mine either. Check your Vin# digit 8 should be the engine ID. X= OHV 4.0L V6, E=SOHC 4.0L V6, P= 5.0L V8. Page 0-5 under engine numbers if you want to double check.

I think the Control Trac has something to do with the 4 wheel drive system. Not sure since I don't have one.

control trac is auto 4x4. when he spins the rear tires in uto 4x4 the clutches in the t-case will engage and send power to the front wheels.

the "auto" 4x4 is like awd in a sence.....we do have the brown wire mod for the 95,96's to get 4 hi in place of 4 auto...
