damn a lot of good mpgs. my 94 at one point got 21 at 85 mph non stop to my cabin in norther michigan not to bad. but i now have a small fuel leak at the fuel pump and dont get the best mpgs mainly 11-13 city. bout to drive 1600 miles one way to colorado and ill check my mpgs then and post back. mostly flats till denver area then going thru the moutains so kinda suspicious bout mountain mps.
My 91 ex just turned over 128K miles with a worn 5spd and we get 15-17 city and sometimes up to 24 on the hiway. I few homemade mods, but mostly stock.
I have played with the HHO and and water/steam injection and have seen gains of 10mpg (on the hiway), but there is A TON of tinkering to make it reliable and consistent...I have horrible hi-temps that blow fuses and burp fluids everywhere and this throws off all the electronic stuff to fool the engine cpu. When I get it licked later this spring / summer I'll share what I have with you guys and leave it up to you to decide whether or not you believe it. The science is real, how it is implemented is where it can get very fishy!
Update: October 2014 Engine is no longer mostly stock, see signature below. 15/22 in the winter, 17-24 summer (city/hiway). No longer using HHO, too much tinkering for my DD. Water/meth injection seems to give me less gains but better performance and no hassle. Also, still running stock 3.55 with open diffs on Michelin AT2 265 70/r17 for winter.
93 ex 4dr 5sp 2wd and I get a whopping 14 on the highway. 127k on he clock. Temp dances all the time and can't figure out why. It will go from the bottom of the normal bracket to the o then back to the bracket.
any help woul d be sweet!
65mph on the highway with 235's
93 Sport w/ 200,000, 3.73's small lift and 33 inch mud tires getting 12 in city traffic. Was getting about 10 before the cats and O2 sensors were replaced. Also just threw out the K&N after I saw what it does to the MAF, haven't seen what the MPG is with the FRAM and clean MAF yet.
Blaze check yer radiator cap, I had a stock looking one and my temp was doing the same. Come to find out the outer plastic cap over the inner metal cap had little cracks and was allowing high pressure steam to bipass the cooling system. I bought a new all metal one and haven't had a problem.
My intown mileage is about 12mpg when I drive only a mile to work and back or about 15-16 with longer stretches. At my very best I get about 24mpg on highway.
I have a 92 Mazda Navajo OHV with 197,000 Miles when I first got it was getting around 8-10 mpg after a tune up and a few other repairs it got 15 mpg then I replaced the maf and got close to 20 mpg now after a homemade mod I am getting 73 mpg I made a homemade hydrogen kit for the truck and hooked it into the vacum line going to the throttle body who would have thought that a lil research and about 40 bucks worth of materials and around 3 gallons of water could do so much but im here to tell you it works well
I think he means 73mpg driven off a cliff, falling downward at the speed of gravity, with the engine turned off... but even then, 73mpg still doesn't seem that plausible
1994 Explorer; usually run Exxon/Mobil 87; ocassionally run a bottle of injector cleaner through; clean the MAF, IAC and TPS about 2 or 3 times per year and I get around 19 to 20 mpg. If I go a long distance on the highway I can get closer to 21 or 22, but thats the best I have ever gotten. Oh yeah, I have 188,000 miles on the odometer.
I checked my mileage on my last two fill-ups. First one was 16mpg but included a lot of warming it up in the mornings. Last tank with no warming up was 18mpg.
Right now my Ex is all stock, 5-speed, 3.27 gears and 30" tires. I'm planning a small lift, 33" AT's and 4.56 gears to install sometime this summer so I'll see what difference that makes.
I believe the 3.27 gears are actually costing me mileage since my commute is mixed hwy and in town/city driving.
I'm trying to get it running as good as possible before making changes. My Idle is high, about 1K. If I can get that down I should see some better mpg's also.
i dont know who else will read this cause its old but here you go. i have a 91 ex i have taken the roof rack completely off, knn with custom intake, flowmaster cat back, 38psi in tires, teflon waxed, new plugs and wires, new radiator + water wetter, extra electric fan in front [i live in az and its hot, the fan really helps] and i just turned 111,890 miles. i dynoed at 185 hp with 270 ft/lbs of tourq. i get 26 average mpg on a regular basis, on a road trip up to 30mpg. good luck everyone
I am guessing around 12 MPG right now. 35's and 4.88's. I am doing a decent trip with a lot of highway miles this weekend so I'll crunch some numbers after next week when I get back... then I'll know for sure. It's not good, I know that. It will be full of gear, so it'll be heavy.
