what kind of tanny fluid?

i just got a 1997 explorer xlt with a 4.0L sohc. i dont have a manual and was wondering what kind of tansmission fluid do i need to use?

Mercon V (the roman number five)

Consider full synthetic like Amsoil/Mobil1. They're Mercon V compatible. More expensive, why cut corners with your tranny?
