I have a 94 explorer with 2 inch suspension lift and 3 inch body lift with 33 Mud kings. My question is I also have a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 2" suspension lift with 32 all terrians. I was thinking of selling my explorer and putting a 6 in longarm kit on the Jeep. The Jeep has coil springs all the way around so the flex would be awesome. I like my explorer better but I want a awesome offroad rig. Can I get my explorer to flex close to the Jeep? I would like to keep the explorer because I would like to show up all the jeeps around here but with flex like the jeeps with the long arms it would hard to do. I also want all suspension lift so if I keep the explorer I want to pull of the body lift and go with only suspension lift. What should I do? I know it's going to be partial to the explorer because of the forum.

Any help please.
Chris

i dont have much to tell you, (i donthave alot of experence yet) but the reason i bought my explorer was so that i can fix up a rig to go out with all my buddies from the wranglerforum (jeeps are expensive couldn't afford a jeep). but from what i've seen a jeep with all coils usually flexs a whole lot better than a vehicle with leaf. but i've seen some fixed up explorers that can do alot! but like i said i'm not completely sure. im kinda new at all of this.

there is alot more after market parts for jeeps. but i've still seen people fix their explorer to be better than some jeeps. But i'm happy with my explorer its a good rig to take off-roading. it can handle alot.

do you disconnect when you take the explorer off road? that should help.

I know my explorer outperforms some jeeps ive been with, never been against one with a 6" long arm. But I could probably hold my own if I was locked up front.

it all depends on how much work you want to put into it, but id take my explorer over a jeep anyday.

I had a 95 ranger with the TTB front and leaf rear, so I know the suspension very well. I had a 4" susp lift on it and I was always impressed with the total sag in the front, and the rear. In fact the rear leafs had more droop than the from TTB. I would say pick the vehicle that you like the most, because in the end you've got to drive it. I never was much of a Chrysler fan so I'm kinda partial to the ford.

Either vehicle will get you there, the TC in the front of the sploder is a relatively strong unit that when setup properly will take some pretty good abuse, I cannot speak to the jeep.

I think you have to evaluate the platform as a whole. I know that 4x4 jeep parts are very easy to find. the 94 sploder doesn't have as much availability/options when it comes to suspension. which one has the better engine and tranny? where are the weak points with each one?

ultimately we can only fuel questions that will help you make the decision clear in your own mind.

Dissconnect what? Sway bars? If so I don't have any I pulled mine off. Yes that help out a lot. Right now both have the same suspension lift. My jeep has 2" and my explorer has 2". My explorer will out perform my jeep now. I think it has a lot to do with the tires. My jeep will out flex the explorer with the sway bars still attached now. I think I'm going to put both up for sale and keep the one that don't sale. I like the explorer better and my wife likes the jeep better. I've always been a ford guy my whole life so thats another reason I want a ford to out do every jeep and blazer out there. I want a good Mud toy and good flex.

I'm going to ask 3,000 for my 1994 Explorer
I'm going to ask 4,500 for my 1997 Jeep Grand cherokee

Chris

P.S. Do we have a for sale section?

Saying you want a good mud truck with good flex is almost like saying you want a clean hooker. It can be done, but you have to lower your standards. :D

Yes, we have a for sale forum. Look on the main forum page under the BIG BOLD TITLE "for sale"
