What is the best material to make your sub box out of price is not the issue. For both sound quantity and SPL, but sound quantity does come first in my book!

Always go MDF

.5-.75 inch thick MDF

What you want is the highest density product you can afford
I would use High density fibreboard ( HDF)

or
hardy backer ( not the cement board--actual hardy backer--5/8" thick).
It comes in 3x5 foot sheets, cuts with normal sawblade.
I would like to see a box made of that stuff.

It is rock solid--kind of heavy though.

i have built a couple boxes and have always used MDF...

if price isnt an issue baltic birch is a far better choice than mdf

For me, MDF 3/4 with f/g resin on the interior.

birch is what they use in professional concert speakers.

It is very heavy, VERY dense, and quite costly.

my point exactly. it also will not split nearly as easily as mdf and some say it will snap the screw before it strips the wood.

for all practicality purposes go with 3/4 mdf and and layers and resin if needed.

just so happens i can get 1.5" mdf for a good price so ill be using that this year for my boxes
