Whats the hole in the rear bumper for?

My 99 rear bumper has a large hole in it, right in the center, with a plastic plug. What is the hole for? It doesn't look substantial enough to tow anything, but must be there for a reason...

It's for a tow ball. Most people just buy a frame-mounted hitch, since it's much stronger than the bumper.

It actually is for towing.

I've towed a '73 Ford Maverick with a tow dolly and a ball on that hole all the way from NJ to DC - stupid idea

If you do tow a flower in that hole make sure you add a tranny cooler.

No, its for converting your bumper into a V shape. You simply attach any trailer, and depending on if you want an outward or inward V you apply gas or brake to achieve either. I’ve seen other people use this with great success. However, if not properly done, you may destroy the bumper entirely.

Actually, mine comes with a tranny cooler from the factory.

I use synthetic flowers because they're lighter and they last longer. I think it saves me about 2 mpg or so.
