Hey gang,
I replaced my wheel bearings about 3 weeks ago. Today, when rotating the tires I noticed one was loose - no big deal. But after taking the rotor off, I noticed the inside bearing was moving around inside the seal (not spinning - but kind of teetering). Is this normal or did this bearing crush? I don't want to take the seal off because I don't have a puller handy or a spare seal laying around. Thanks.

The early Explorers used a paired tapered roller bearing to support the front wheels. It is indeed normal for the inner cone/roller assembly to "flop" around in the hub. The bearing cup, however should remain as a press fit.

Thanks for the reply. I kinda figured that, but wanted to be sure.
