Just done a several hundred mile trip from West Cornwall to the
Cotswolds and back, including three days travelling around in that area,
and only got a glimpse in the distance of one Ex :(. This was a grey
(I think) one in Pershore. Thought I might have seen more.
As I know you all like nice cars with big American engines, wanted to
show you the Jensen Interceptor I had use of last Friday while in the
Cotswolds - all 7.2 litres of V8. Had a great day out - clocked 114
miles - cost just under £52 in petrol, but well worth it.
The Ex went like a dream, running all the time on lpg. Checked
consumption over a 190 mile run mainly on the motorway and dual
carriageway travelling at 75 to 80mph, but some town use as well, and got an average of 40.35mpg. This is
with gas at 55p a litre from my local supplier, comparing it to petrol
at around £1.11 a litre. Keeps me very happy :D.

3 explorers

well i have 3 of them . a blue v reg that i drive every day . a gray r reg that sits around most of the time as wife wants something smaller.and a light green 1999 which i am dismantling for spares .

Do you think I need new glasses, or was I just unlucky with my sightings?

Nothing in Central London. I'm quite disappointed. Too bad I couldn't bring mine over. That would be a site. :D

Didn't have a chance before mate to welcome you to England - have fun in the capital:D

Would love to see a USA spec Ex - looks as if I will have to wait until the end of next year which is the next chance for me to get over your side.

I believe about 400,000 Explorers were imported in total from the states - wonder how many are still surviving?

I know of 5 in my area and have been a weirdo as my wife says, and made sure to tell them all about the forum................Sadly they have not joined and just see the cars as, well cars! We or i see mine as more than that- I actually LOVE my Ex!

Hail to weirdos like me!

Wow, 400,000? That seems like a good many. I would think I would see at least one around here. I'd love to deport one and swap mine over to right hand drive. :D

Thanks for the welcome! Hope to meet you at some point

Make that 400,001 now! :D

Sad to say, but that looks normal now!! LOL.

Nice one - spot the differences.

H, you are certainly not a wierdo, definitely not in the eyes of the likes of us who appreciate one of the best cars in the world, if not the best:thumbsup:

As far as I know going by Ford UK sales figures about 4,500 RHD explorers were sold between 1997 and 2001. Who knows how many the USAF brought in. The numbers on our roads are getting fewer each year as running costs rise and accidents happen. So keep em going guys. :D

I have 3 on my drive, 3 in my workshop and 1 outside.

Yup- long live the Ex, Tod Mine even has the egr bonnet guard, cept for the colour being green and no shiney grill- the same.

Nice!

but look at the tarmac it actually reaches from side to side and there are no coal mines (sorry the council call them pot holes:D) anywhere to be seen.

i do like the ex in white i must say:thumbsup:

Quite a bit has changed since that picture. The bumper cover is now from an XLS (solid gray), lights are gone and the headlights care the diamond clears. I only run the bug shield in the winter. Keeps the rock and salt from hurting the precious paint.

I love white vehicles after owning this one.

I've heard the figure of 6,000, as the total number sold 96 thru 01.

If you take the 96/97 year models, which are now 11/12 years old, on an average of 12,000 miles a year they would be approaching 150,000 miles. So as time goes by the number will fall as they wear out naturally.

I think Ford are meant to be bringing back the Explorer in some form in 2010, but who knows if they will actually do that, as they have cut back on production in the states.

to add to that, my explorer p plate 96 is going down hill, i have rattling noises under neath that i cant find? abs problem i cant solve, the gearbox is either twitchey in gears or slow to drop down and slips into 3rd, head gasket is leaking in water, my front diff has a rumble noise and my left leaf spring is sagging. could be simple for some one but iv not got the time for the hassle, iv got myslef a 98 lpg that needs a new torque convertor, everything else is sound, ill be selling mine as spares or repairs in a few months time.

Eight are known to my local dealer

My local dealer here in Hastings knows of about 8 of them. If the ones I've seen locally are local ones, I've seen about 4 of them. I rarely see them on motorways or in London.

2 close to me, mine and a 97, i see early mornings outside the local greasy spoon. Just sailed thru it's MOT after a visit to Duncan for a few tweaks. Thx for that.

Didnt see any Ex's in India, thou they seemed to have quite a few Endevours over there, which are similar.
