Okay-one more conundrum for y'all--I would LOVE to get some Pioneer 1" tweeters to bring the sound up to ear level, but I've been told that there's nowhere to mount them by almost every installation place around where I live. Seeing as to how you Audiophiles know what's best, got any ideas?

I'm gonna mount my 1in Kenwoods in my A-pillars just above the dash. I've got blown rockfords in there, but never got around to replacing them.

a friend of mine had mb quart tweets mounted in the ac vents of his expedition.

i would put them in the a pillar also for best imaging effect

Mine are flush mounted into the top of the dash and attenuated by 2 dB since that is a somewhat "bright" location. I experimented with many different mounting locations and found that was the best for imaging and soundstage.

Allrighty then.....the only problem is that I was told my 98's airbags prevent mounting tweeters on the dash, and that there's not enough depth to mount them on the pillars. I too thought the c-pillars would be a great place to put 3"'s, but they're too shallow. Am I getting the wool pulled over my eyes? ;)

I don't know about mounting the tweeters in the c pillars but I know for a fact that they can be mounted in the A pillar. In fact, I use to have boston tweeters mounted in my a pillars. I don't know what brand you have, but it can be done. Another place is to take out your ash tray and build a custom enclosure and you can easily mount two in there. It doesn't prove for the greatest imaging, but it is decent.

what exactly are the A pillars and C pillars?

a pillars are on the front of the doors.... dont know where c pillars are...

or are they the pillars in between the front and rear doors?

Pillars

A-Pillars: Front of the car, on either side of the windshield.

B-Pillars: Between the front and rear doors.

C-Pillars: Just behind the rear doors, between the door and the quarter panel.

D-Pillars: Rear of the car, on either side of the rear window.

Any trick to removing the A pillars? I took all the screws off mine and the plastic plug but mine still seem to be stuck on. I pulled on it pretty hard but was afraid it was going to crack. Any help would be appreciated, I gotta get my tweeters in to complete my audio.

Here's where mine are: Dead Link Removed

They mounted very easily since that's a flat portion of the door panel. One self-tapping screw each and some silicone, and a hole drilled for the wires. All in all very easy, they look good, and sound much better than full range speakers. Mine are also adjustable, you can see how they're aimed back.

is there enough space to flush mount a 1" tweet on top of the side mirror control?

thanks dre

Man, I forgot all about this thread! And I'm the one who started it! lol

If anybody cares, I mounted mine on the B pillar, just behind and above the tops of the front seats because Icouldn't figure out how to run the wires through the front door to the front pair of speakers :( 3 hours of trying to figure out what wire does what and I said ''the hell with it'' and wired them to the back pair of speakers. It was a real pain gettting the plastic to pull far enough away from the windows without removing the seat belt bolts (which I couldn't have done anyway).

Sounds pretty good, IMO.
