Which front axle do I have?

How do I know if I have the Dana 28 or the Dana 35? My service manual mentions both. It says I should have a tag on the axle with the model on it. I have searched it over carefully and cannot locate the tag.

Where is the tag usually?

Were both models used in '94, or by default do I have a specific one?

If you have the 3.73 gears like your profile says then you have the Dana 35, I think the ones with 3.27 have the 28's

NOPE.....

All explorers(but a few early 91's) had a Dana 35. The Dana 28 was used by Ford in the Rangers. The few explorers that have them got the raw end of the deal... they were simply left over parts that ford used. Your truck though.... a 35

Lee's right you have a Dana 35, Remember that your front gears are reverse cut.
