just did this swap

i just did this swap in my 95 exploder and i have to say its one of the easier projects I've ever done. i found the 2003 sport trac cluster on ebay for $50. All the idiot lights and gauges work, theres only one or two slight problems. first off anytime a doors is open, the fuel reset light comes on. second, the temp gauge need some custom recalibration. so i popped it off with a fork and stuck it back on where i thought it should be. well, the gauge still thought it was running hot so i removed the "check gauge" light bulb that kept illuminating. all in all very easy and painless.

Am i correct to assume that the sport and sport track clusters wont wonk in a V8 X due to the tach?
Ide like the white cluster but ive got the 5.0

I had one in my 00 v8 and its in my 98 v8 now. Works with no problems at all. Just make sure you get a 2wd one so you don't see the spots for 4x4 high and 4x4 low but either way it works so it really doesn't matter.

Mine is from a 4x4 but I used the 4x4 lights with my manual 4406 swap in my 00 by wiring into the GEM. That way I would know if I accidentally bumped it into 4x4 high (did that once and didn't notice for a day or 2)

Perfect, thanks!

Stew- if you swap the temp gauge from your '95 cluster into the new one, it will work fine. Oherwise, they peg. There are two gauges on the '95 cluster that have external resistors on the back of them. One was the temp, I can't for the life of me remember the other. But, if you pop the needles off, unscrew the 2 offending gauges off the '95 cluster, then remount to the new cluster and use the new needles, all will be fine.

What he said. :)

I just grabbed one of each (2wd and 4wd) at the junkyard this past weekend. They'll be up for grabs tonight...

here is a perfect example of help but not helpful,
three pages of swapping Clusters and talk and about needing to re-pin (moving wires to fit new face plate clusters) but not one person here said or told or showed which wires were moved to help with the warning lights for there swap.
for us doing research these are a waste of time and energy to read.....

I put the white sport cluster in my 2000 Mountaineer.

I didn't change a thing, and it all works.

Oh I can put them in
They will mount
BUT
As stated in the thread

The Warning lights do not line up and are incorrect
Or like this guy, just pull the bulb
Not what I want
There are a few swaps done and then repinned
I am in need of the information of the repinning, to get the warning lights realigned and in the correct corresponding spots that light up

This is using the 2001 Explorer White Faced Cluster Faces on my 1995 Ranger with all the Ranger Controls (guts).
Just a lot of talk of this being done and people doing it but no one explains "HOW" they got it done. (Which wires they repinned to which spots on the connectors).

And I didn't have to change anything.

Mine was plug and play.

Good luck with your project.

MAS Tequila,
I did finally get it wired (repinned) took awhile but got it done.
It looks great and I'm happy

You should post a how to so its clear for everyone else with earlier models what they need to swap.

I also saw request for speedo rewiring on another Ranger Forum and others. Congrats to Pintobobster on his determination!:bounce: Please post wiring finding.:)

So here is what I found and did to swap the 2001 Explorer white faced cluster panels into my 1995 Ranger using all my 1995 gauges and housing with the plastic board.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
CONNECTOR C216 PIN# 3 PK/LG
MOVE TO
CONNECTOR C215 PIN# 4 (MINE WAS EMPTY)

DOOR AJAR
CONNECTOR C215 PIN# 3 BK/O
MOVE TO
CONNECTOR C214 PIN# 6

FUEL RESET ( WHICH IS INERTIA SWITCH ON PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR TO SHUT OFF FUEL INCASE OF IMPACT)
CONNECTOR C214 PIN# 6 GY/O
MOVE TO
CONNECTOR C214 PIN# 3 (MINE WAS EMPTY)

Took pictures of all gauge settings prior to pulling dash apart and removing needles from panel.
After I got everything together (re-pinning) I left face lens off to expose needles so I could set them correctly.

I then started the truck let it idle for 20 minutes set my RPM needle at just below 1000 RPM from picture I took, I put my other needles approx center setting for my TEMP, OIL, and BATTERY. Then I drove to fuel station filled tank and set fuel needle just slightly to right edge of black marker above the F, (it use to go way past the F before but I do not mind having a little reserve fuel in take). then set up my GPS drove to the freeway and set my cruise control to 60MPH and set my Speedometer needle to match,

I then Drove home seated all my needles to correct height as to not hit/scrap on panels.
Been doing fine for the week I have been driving it. And it looks GREAT......

Also I used new Needles I bought off EBAY
The only mod I had to do to get them to fit correctly was cut them shorter to set on pins of gauges and for the Battery I pulled the metal tab out of original needle and drilled a bit larger hole in the ebay needle and push the metal tab into the new needle and it set just fine on the battery gauge no gluing or other mod and it is not sloppy or loose works like factory.

Hope this helps others with a 2001 Explorer white face cluster panel swap into a 1995 Ford Ranger......???

There are times on this forum that I too have found frustration on trying to get information for a project that just somehow the link to photo's no longer work or just a little bit of incomplete details found to accomplish a modification is missing. Frustration is now higher since Photobucket has decided to charge for photo links to many wonderful useful threads found on this forum. I am not sure of an answer to this problem, but some very valuable knowledge and hard work is being lost. I am not criticizing anyone here, including moderators whom do an excellent job to keep things organized, civil and a excellent resource. I still believe sharing your knowledge and experiences with others is so valuable to making this a great community and forum.
Pintobobster I once again thank you for your contribution to helping others!:dpchug:
