Hey........ I thought I would start a thread that lists the people on Explorer Forum that have V8's in their Explorers (or Rangers). This way people with model and year specific questions can better find people to ask questions or view their results.

Try to keep your replies short, so it's easy to navigate through these pages.

Information Should include:
Year of Explorer, Year of V8 Engine, What kind of transmission, what type of EEC-IV of Carb system, Is it Emission legal, how to contact you with questions, your conversion website, whate state, anything related to v8 conv, etc, etc.

This will be an interesting list!

Arizona

You probably mean that to read "non factory installed V8" Explorers. Otherwise you will get a lot of replies by stock V8'ers.

Speedfreak's truck has:

'91 Explorer XLT 4dr 4x4

'93 Cougar 5.0L, accessories, EEC and wiring

Custom AOD with wide-ratio gear set and heavy duty clutches

Advanced Adapters 50-8404 transfer case adapter kit (includes tranny output shaft and power divider)

Factory BW-1354 electric shift transfer-case

Ford Motorsport ('96 style) Explorer hedders, custom y-pipe and 3" inch exhaust (not 100% complete yet) with 3" DynoMax muffler.

the engine mounts are homemade, the rad is factory, the oil adapter is a parts store over the counter unit.

The truck has 5000 flawless kilometres at this point and has passed the local emissions test without a problem.

My web site is: Explorer 5.0L Conversions

My Ranger had:

'93 5.0L from Mustang

C-4 Automatic from TCI

33" BFG All Terrain on M/T Wheels

Used L&L Product adapter kit, (The BEST on the Market)
There motor mount fit perfectly, drilled one hole per their instructions. The headers are the best shorties I 've seen, 1/2" flange with heavy gauge tubing. Remote Oil Flter setup is machined from billet aluminum, maybe some better but non look as good, some of the best maching I have seen. The oil pan fit with the cross beam setup and would work with a solid axle.

Advanced Adapter Raditor that fit under the front raditor support. (Not really happy with it, I think the next will be custom fit to my cut out size.

I have run small axle since I bought it and had planned to upgrade to a 9"er but time ran out.

The only problem with this truck is, "That I do not own it anymore". :(

New project in the works...

Good Luck to All,

:us: :chug: :can:

As Crancase said, Yes, I mean "Who all has non-factory V8 conversions in their Ranger/Explorers?"

Nice write up Speadfreak. It looks like the T-bird V8 is the way to go. What did you do about the AC compressor/steering box interferance?

Can you do this conversion and use a manual trans. I've read on rangerpowersports of people using a T5, but this may relocate the shifter back anywhere from 0-12 inches. That seems like a large difference.. ANyone have any experience.

Lonestar.....
don't know if you noticed..... But I used the T-bird / 94/5 (SN-95 same thing) Accessory brackets too. I was able to fit the Air Conditioning compressor in in stock location with out a problem. The smog pump on the other hand, had to be relocated with the use of some custom brackets. I used a body lift which took care of my AC box clearence. I used an AC manifold hose out of a 1995 Cobra 5.0 to make my AC operational. (bolt-in)
Hope this helps!

Umm yeah. I got a V-8 in my 91 sport... Doesn't run! But ya know ;) I have a 1990 Mustang H0 5.0 bored to 306 (0.30 over) um I used the James Duff conversion products, and they worked well... The problems cam in the motor mounts, due to my error, not theirs, and well just lying around the headers got scratched to hell from getting kicked around :) My bad! I've got a C4 being built which will mate to a twin-stick Dana 20 t-case.

It'll run some day  :D
Pete
