I've got some serious bump steer and need a fix. What's up with the superlift steering kit? How's that work? What's the price range? Why not just get a dropped pitman arm?

Does anyone make a dropped pitman arm for a 92' Ex. If so, who makes it? Who's selling them? What's the price range?

you could try Fabtech, hope this helps.

Khris,
I'm surprised you didn't get a drop pitmam arm with your 6" lift.
With that much lift it's a must have item.
Mine came with my Superlift kit, the pitman arm is Superlift part # 1109. You should be able to order it directly from Superlift.
www.superlift.com
Also, I use their steering stabilizer kit, it corrected all the bump steer I originally had.
Hope this helps, Gary

THANKS GARY!!!! That's exactly what I was looking for. I looked at mine and thought it was already a lengthened one but then I stuck my head under a stock ranger and it looked the same length. Is there any chance of you or anyone taking a measurement of how much verticle drop their extended arm has so that I can verify that mine is stock. I'm thinking the distance from the bottom of the top flat surface to the top of the bottom flat surface straight up and down. (If that makes any sense!!)

Khris,
I get 2 inches of drop on mine measuring within your definition.
Gary

Thank's a ton Gary!! I'll measure mine when I get home tonight just to make sure that it's not already a extended arm. The only reason I'm curious is cause it does look pretty long and when I looked at the Ranger arm I didn't have the Explorer there to look at right away. I put a link to one pic of my Ex in my profiles page if you want to check it out?

Khris,
Your rig looks great, looks like you could handle larger tires.
I'll be at Santee Lakes next Tuesday thru Friday, staying at the campgrounds. why don't you stop by if you're in the area. I'll be with my family staying in spot 14 by the Lake. Just look for the Green Sport.
Gary

I'll keep that in mind. Here's a stupid question. Where's the camp ground at? I know where the lakes but have never noticed a camp ground. I could probably get down there one evening after work. What part of SoCal are you from?

Khris,
I'm from the San Fernando Valley area, Northern LA.
I haven't been to the camp grounds before, but they have about 180 campsites, suposedly near lake # 4, I think.
Shouldn't be a problem finding them. You might want to park at the entrance and walk in., they might charge for bringing the vehicle in.
Stop by if you get in the area, have a cold one.

Gary

Don't take this as insulting but why did you choose Santee Lakes? I would think there's someplace better to camp but then again I've never been to that camp ground so this is an ignorant statement since it could be the best place in the county.

Dannyboy,
I would think the 4" kit should have a dropped Pitman arm. Without it I would think the angle from the steering shaft to tierods would be too severe.

Khris,
The Santee Lakes just came up on the map, and the little lady said looks good to her.

Gary

Well you could say I am going to have a custom lift or you could say I am crazy, but I am getting the drop brackets from Dre that he picked up after Kampy put in his solid axle, and then 4" extended coils so I am looking now to get the pitman arm and the sway bar links and I should be set. I will level the rear with a custom spring over( custom I mean no kit, just new perches and welds)

Dannyboy,
Your custom SOA should work great.
You can use stock length rear Shocks.
You'll need to lengthen your emergency brake cable, alot of users have been using Ranger emergency brake cables, the cable only needs to be a couple inches longer.
Good luck, sounds like you know what your doing.

Gary

Hell no I dont have a FREAKIN clue what I am doing or getting into. I dont even change my own oil, I have just been R&D'n my butt off and found two guys in LaCrosse, 1 has done this spring over and the other has lifted a 94 Ranger, plus many other vehicles. I am scared Sh*tlless that my truck will never be put back together right(but maybe it will match the driver)
As for stock length shocks, I want to extend these as long as possible. I have to drive this every day and I like to go fast and want control and i figure with a longer shock I will sacrifice an inch or so of clearance, but gain stability

Dannyboy,

Longer shocks won't help stability, when you hit a bump the shocks will bottom-out and cause them to fail.
If you want stability then make sure you reconnect your stabilizer bars, you'll need extender bars in the rear to get them reconnected.

If you're going to attempt installing the lift yourself make sure:
Your have all the right tools, air chisels and a good grinder to remove all the rivets. You'll need a 1/2 inch drive impact wrench and a good supply of socket and open end wrenches. A floor jack and at least 4 heavy duty jack stands.
With the help of a least one of your mechanically minded friends you should be able to do this job yourself.

Plans on two day to complete the lift.

You'll need an alignment after you complete your lift, good luck there most shops don't have a clue how to align a lifted Exploder. I took mine back THREE time to the frame and alignment shop, I then took it home a aligned it myself.

Good and keep us posted on your progress, Gary

Add to your list of tools, titanium drill bits.

Believe me - drilling a frame hole with regular run of the mill drill bits SUCK. Even the cobalt ones have problems. I love my titanium drill bits - expensive, but worth it.

Gary,

I'll probably make a trip down to the campground either Tues, or Wed. evening. I would like to check out you Ex and speak with you about your lift. I've got some questions and you seem to be fairly knowledgable or at least experienced. I'm not sure if you'll see this or not but thought I would give you some warning. I would expect to be down there around 7:00-7:30 depending on my work and traffic becasue I have an INSANE commute. In fact I'd be willing to bet that I have the longest daily drive out of anyone on this board.

Khris

Khris,
Great, stop by if you can.
In case you can't locate me, You can reach me on my cell phone at 818-535-8247.
Look forward to seeing your rig.

I am not planning on putting longer shocks in the stock location, I plan on the shock mounts being at the very bottom of the axle and then I will measure and purchase the according length, does that make any sense?
