I've had my Ex Limited for just over two weeks now and in my opinion canceling your order is a huge mistake. This is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned. Quite honestly I never thought I would own an American car again because of quality differences. I saw an Explorer commercial and then saw it in person at the auto show. I wasn't in the market for a new car, but had to have this one. I got lucky and found a Limited on a dealer lot. It has been perfect. The ride is excellent, the technology is amazing. Simply put, this is one exceptional vehicle that I expect to be driving for many many years.

As an actual owner of the New Explorer, I must take exception with your opinion about the vehicle. You seem determined to find even the silliest reasons to not purchase it. This is probably the most advanced vehicle Ford has ever produced, and like any machine this complex, there will be bugs. Mine has been flawless, and get looks everywhere I drive. The customer service has sofar been amazing.
I've worked in Aerospace, HVAC and for the past 17-years as a sales rep for Porsche. 4 million-dollar gas turbines blow up, and 20 thousand-dollar transmissions fail. That's what warrantees are for.
Your statements about the vehicles not being thoroughly tested is so far off the mark, that you lose all credibility. Ford has spent a record amount for R&D on it, and it is paying off. This SUV is a milestone car for Ford, and I predict that it will shake up the Luxury SUV market once the public gets the chance to see and drive it. The slow pace of deliveries is only to ensure quality, and most customers don't have a problem with that. Don't settle for some random brand of SUV because you have to wait a few weeks. Just my opinion.

As a prospective buyer trying to decide what to buy I have to agree with broadway. He is not trying to find smallest and silliest reasons not to buy the car - he is talking about widely discussed, existing real issues with the car, that obviously should affect an educated consumer's decision whether to buy a product. One can argue about how prevalent these issues are, but not whether they are real or not.

Sure - it looks like it is a great car with plenty of very nice features. Some people don't have any problems with it too. It may be revolutionary, a milestone, all of that.

However - things like significant bugs in the software that controls most user-controlled functions of the car really should have been addressed before the car was released.

Statement that broadway has no credibility by complaining of inadequate product testing is nonsensical. It does not matter how much money or time Ford might have spent on product testing - the results, not the effort - is what ultimately matters to customers.

From engineering stand point - a centralized system that controls so much (environmental systems, communication, navigation etc) should have back up or reversion mode that allow basic control in case of system failure / reset / reboot; and should have been robust and stable before being released. Since it is not - either the testing has been inadequate and somehow failed to bring to light the problems, or - the problems have been detected, but the company decided to sell the product first and fix the problems later. From the consumer's stand point both of the above options are not appealing.

Disclaimer - the above are my opinions only. Also - I have NOT decided NOT to buy the Explorer myself - I like the car and may very likely buy one in the future - but I will wait with any purchasing decisions before most of the problems people mention are satisfactorily resolved and no longer being commonly reported. And I certainly understand people who need to buy a car right now, and decide not to buy the Explorer because of all the issues being discussed in various threads here.

Climate and Radio can both be controlled manually on the centre stack. Your phone can certainly be answered manually. Which leaves only NAV, and if you have a map in the car, then your covered as well.

I've had my LTD for a couple of weeks and have zero issues with MFT ver 2.4.

Obviously - I don't have the car myself at this point - so I can only depend on what other people are reporting. I have read multiple complaints of ECS going full blast cold or hot and people complaining of not being able to do anything about it. Are you saying that there are other ways/controls these people could have used to bring the offending system under control?

It is a different suv than it was before. Everyone can do whatever they want with there own $40k. You know...opinons are like @55holes...everyone has one.

I wish the AWD was the same as my 2006 Explorer. It perfers RWD until they slip and then the front wheels kick in. Seems in a AWD set up it should do that, not the other way around.

We are all just having a conversation...please dont take the offensive about the review from Car & Driver.
