hello all... i have been to many shops now trying to get my suspension work done on my 96 explorer sport 2wd.. i recently had the 3" body lift put on so thats a start.... But i need to be way up there.... I want to fit atleast 35"- plus tires on my vehicle. the problem is no one makes a suspension lift kit for my car????? i have read other postings on here in regards to swaping out axles?? is that right? one of the main probs is ford got cheap and used a mono leaf spring ... so i need to have a new one fabricated just for an additional 3" lift!!! are these people crazy>> they are sayin my car can only go up another 3"-maybee4" suspensin lift. i have had 3 shops tell me the same thing.... is there anyone outh there that has my car wiht a lift?????? or any ideas??? i want atleast a 6" suspension lift.... and keep in mind i dont have thousands of dollars to invest and my vehivle is the 2 door sport... i just want it hi...... i am looking to spend as little as possable...... the lift is all for looks not for off roading. thanks guys for your help. oh and i will post pics of my ride soon as i can i am new to this site.

Superlift and trailmaster both make 4" suspension lifts. Since your truck is 2wd you can also get 3" spindles for the front. There is stuff available out there, try using the search feature on here and you'll find out alot.

Welcome to the board.

Like Doug said there are a few options for you out there. You can get the spindles, twist the torsion bars and with your body lift you already have that combo will give you 7"-8" of lift.

I'm pretty close to you too. I live in Huntington Beach and work in Laguna Hills. Welcome to the board.

thanks

thanks guys for your help..... this site is awsome i must say... can you guys tell me tho......... the back is the easiest to lift right?? i just have new leaf springs put in and so fouth to my liking>> yo see i am not installing it myself i do not have nearly the right tools.. its the front that the shops ae given me grief on... shouldnt that be not to hard either??? i wanna achive a 6" suspension lift..... what type of spyndals do i need can anyone point me in the right direction??? i have spent many ours going through the postings on here and still no luck

explorer pro comp or fabtech 3" lift spindles ..... available from many places

new leafs out back would be a good choice for you... the monoleaf sucks.....

my truck is a toyota, but has fabtech spindles, and shares the same basic design as the explorer fronst suspension, has the same basic design as the rear suspension too.....

3" procomp spindles for 95-01 2wd explorers, find them on jcwhitney.com thats where i got mine or go to fabtechmotorsports.com and get the 3.5" ranger edge 2wd spindle. i have heard of people making those work for explorers. for the rest of the lift you can do a torsion twist and i would recommend a Spring over axle converson for the rear to achieve the 5"+ of lift go to the top of this suspension forum and you will see torsion twist 101 and that will tell you how to do the torsion twist

Ford only slapped the mono-leafs on the Sports, so if you pick up some used (or new) 4-door leaf packs, that will take care of that. The rear axle on your truck is also "spring under axle," which means you can, pretty, easily and cheaply swap the leaf packs to the top of the axle with new spring perches, and waalaa, you just lifted the rear about 5". Then, for the front, you can install 3" lift spindles (about $500), and twist your torsion bars up about 2", and waalaa, you lifted the front about 5".

This is a pretty tried-n-true 5" plan for 2wd Explorers. For 6", you could twist the torsion bars up a little more (at a sacrifice of ride comfort), and maybe add a 1" leaf block in the rear.

You, being 2wd, have a bit more options than the 4wd guys have. You can do 5" of susp lift for about +/-$600......................it would cost 4wd guys close to $1000 more.

Good Luck!!

edit: DAMNIT!!! I start to type, then go take a piss, then finish typing..........and two others have already put the info out there! ;)

Thanks Rob you rock... But my prob still remains... I am having a shop do the work for me... I want to make sure I have all the parts before i hand over the truck. (my baby) So what need to be looking for is new spindles then they can tighten the torsion bars giving me around 6". can i get 3" lift just from the torsion bars? . are there any other parts involved? just spindles? then i can grab leafs off a 4 door explorer and have him fasten them on the top of the axle instead of the bottom? which will give me the heith in the back? originally my mechanic wanted me to call up deringer springs and have them make me a pair of new leaf springs... but that will cost 700$... and originally the mecahnic was only going for 3" suspension lift..... yuk! i just need to do more research but i will tell you that I am gratefull for all of your guys help.. I will be signing up as an officail memeber tomorrow for this site...... anymore help you guys would be great.. what i need is someone that has the same car, year as me so that i can ask him or her what do i need? :p

get those spindles and have a shop install them. i dont think they will want to touch your torsion bars probably due to liability or some $hit. you can do that easy and it requires no parts. also im not sure if the shop will do a spring over axle either you have to do it or have some sort of a fabricator do it becasue im pretty sure it requires welding. if you have any more questions keep em comin!

hey big dave!! i am gettin the spindles and torsion bars tightened tommorrow thanks for the help

sounds good and put up some pics when it all gets done because i have never seen an a arm sport with 6"+ of lift...btw what are you doing to the rear end?

i will be gettin a leaf off a 4 door.... and switch to a SOA and a add a leaf. but the front comes first!!! i will be drivin around pre runer style for the next month .. hahaha

ur gonna want to get that rear done somehwhat asap. with your front to rear setup like that, the geometry is gonna be all out of wack and ur allignment and such will be crazy. its not tough to do. i took care of mine all in a day, front and rear.

yeah i would take care of that rear end too. its inexpensive and if you dont have the tools or what not to do it im sure the shop you get the lift done at can, i would at least ask.

yes i was supposed to take care of the front end today but am going to be doing it tommorrow.... I will be geetin the spindles 3" and twistin up the torsions... the rear is easy , i am just waitin to find a pair of 4door leafs for my ride.... hopefully i will find them soon... :) as soon as its done i will post pictures as a MEMBER...

SKIN your signature is too big... max is 6 lines per the rules of the site....

anywyas onto the real reason i posted.... yes you should have it all lifted at one time, driving around with either 6" lift in the rear or 6" lift in the front only is dangerous

jimabena74 i might be wrong but as i see it on my monitor it shows six lines.... thats it.... not to be a dick but i have now payed my member fee's and arent we all here to help out?? thanks for your help..... and all..... i am shure your tired of answering the same questions to the same forum and all but dude... let loose, its six lines !!!! like you said in your signature "The OPINION expressed above is mine, if you don't like it, TOO BAD....."
laterz

you have a runon line and thus its more.... hey dont want to listen to me its fine on the sig thing... a moderator can get on you for it..... jsut trying to help you fix it now before you get caught for it..... there is also some huge text in the signature and that takes up more space than it should

also jsut because you might be? elite doenst mean you can break the forum rule of 6 lines for the signature..... is your monitor set at 800x600 resolution?

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/faq.php?

"6 SHORT non-wrapping lines are the maximum that you can have. Moderators may ask you to shorten your signature if you don't comply they may shorten it for you leaving just the basic information intact."
