Stole his father's keys and crashed down the street from my house.

Got a free ride in the back of a PIU owned by the Chicago Police Department for his troubles.

I bet he gets worse when he gets home.

I grew up in a very small town in OH. It was surrounded by fields of mostly corn and soybeans, and there was a grain elevator for the corn and similar - as well as a soybean processing plant to extract the oil.

It might sound funny, but 10 year olds were routinely driving a tractor through town pulling a load and no one thought twice about it. Those "farm kids" could drive super straight because their parents yelled at them if the rows weren't straight. Perhaps even worse, the school kids would give each other flack if the rows of corn were off. It was like a contest to see who could have the best rows of corn.

I live in a state where I'd be on the hook financially if my kids did this or stole from someone. Someone would have to bail me out of jail if my son did this.

I wish Ohio was this way. They don’t even do anything to car thieves under 18. Get slapped on juvenile probation, and that’s the end. Even if you get multiple felony evasion and firearms charges. Nothing gets done.

That looks like two cars going for the same spot. I'd like to know how he climbed the car without damaging the front end of the Explorer at all. The little Honda must have had his tires curbed, so the tire was sticking out to help the truck climb it.

That front right tire had to have been perfectly placed to do that. Kid must've had a horseshoe on him somewhere. No airbag deployment, either.

And where he hit the Volkswagen - just on the license plate. It anything, maybe cracked the bracket. Maybe.

Oh, and about your picture: I can't resist: Ain't nothin' EZ about that pass.

soooo close to rolling on its side

It looks like the newer rigs can wheel pretty good! Climbed right up the import

it'll buff out

my dad would have killed me!!

Has nobody ever seen the proper way to parallel park in Chicago? 🤪

Can you imagine what this kid's insurance rates are gonna be, when or if he gets a license?

Reminds me of a collision I investigated while working in Ventura County, 1992 or 1993. Dude leaves his 16 year old son at his beach house for the evening with access to the car keys. In the garage is a two week old Turbo Porsche Carrera. Kid let's his idiot friend talk him into taking the Porsche for a joy ride. They get about a mile down Coast Highway, kid punches it. It gets away from him and he slides backwards into a huge boulder. They are unharmed but get to stand there while Dad's new $115,000 car burns to nothing.

Mom and Dad drive up on their way home from their couple's night out to see the carnage, a couple CHP cars, fire trucks and a tow truck. Kid points to them and says it's his parents. I stopped them as they drove slowly past because they had no idea that was his Porsche as it was a smoldering hulk. The restraint that man had was admirable.

Had another juvenile we arrested for DUI in his mom's car that he took without asking. She was a single mother, housekeeper, no money, etc.

We take him home because they don't have a phone and we didn't want to take him to juvenile hall. I tell mom what transpired, and that we towed the car. She signs the paperwork taking custody, then immediately starts whaling on the kid as he's trying to get through the doorway. He's crying, she continues to beat his ass while we back away and get the heck out of there. I think that kid would most likely turn out alright with a mom like that.

I used to be a car hauler, it takes a lot of restraint when you have the keys to a badass ride with tons of power. One thing I learned, the guys liked the new exotic cars, the women loved the classics like a Packard or studebaker.

That's interesting.

I like 4x4's, classics and mid-2000's Porsches.

Thank you, I'm sure you helped that young man. There's a time and place for mild discipline, and harsh too.

4x4's, exotics, but not a big Ferrari fan, American muscle and European luxury cars for me. Never been into the Asian market offerings. They always felt... I don't know... Cheap? Even the "higher end" cars feel that way to me. Don't know if it's the build quality or the materials they used, but that's how I feel inside of those.

His insurance rate will be exactly the same as any other 16 year old. This won’t count against him.

ah man, so that means my rate will be the same as his? ah man!!! no wonder its so expensive for young druvers ! :(

A friend and I were both 15 and in drivers ed class at the same time. One night I was at his house with his parents gone and he said he wanted to take his mom's Monte Carlo out for a ride. I eagerly agreed and off we went. I knew things weren't good as soon as he said "Let me know if I'm too close to the mail boxes on your side". Thankfully we made it back with no issues. 🤣
