Smaller backspacing + wider tires = wider stance

Yep, lower back-spacing wheels or wheel spacers are your only options.

what are wheel spacers and where can i purchase them?

i thought wheelbase was the length between the axles front to rear, hub to hub

wouldnt the other be stance or width

Sound plan. Get some 33x12.50s and put them on some 10" wide rims with about 3.5" of backspacing and that should please your dad. If you are serious about off-roading and it's not just for looks go with 8" wide rims and 12.50 width tires. The narrower rim holds the bead better when aired down.

Do what rick and the others said about different wheels...don't put spacers on.

Later
CP :)

do you guys have any pictures or an explorer riding on 10" wide rims with 3.5" backspacing to show him?

Here is a picture of my truck with 15x10 before my axle conversion if it helps.
