Will ot work

Hey everyone, I have a 02 xlt that needs a motor, and I found a sohc from a 97 and was wondering if it would work in my 02. I figure I would swap most everything off my motor, just wasny sure if it would work, also they are 4.0

I am not sure, but I would not swap backwards in years if i were you. The older models(pre 2001) have timing chain issues. Most of us pre 2001 SOHC guys who blow an engine buy newer ones to rid ourselves of the flawed parts.

Yea, the problems still exist, but the older ones are even more problematic. I know some guys with 2nd gens put in 4.0s from newer mustangs. Might more for you.
